I have just been looking through "projects" to get inspired, and wow! I have a question for all those that have made the stunning placemats. What did you use on the back of them? Are they reversible? Did you use batting in between ? They all look so smooth. Excellent work ladies! I am now inspired!!

Thank you sew much!

Most of the time when I am making placemats I will stipple the front, batting & backing all @ the same time & use a co-ordinating colour bobbin so that the stitches look pretty on the other side too then just add a matching binding. If your going to use it for something hot then be sure to add the heat batting, I use insulbright. Hugs & ** Loralye

I use light loft batting in between and press it so it is smooth before I sew the front and back together. I hate the sound of plate clunking onto the table. I like to back mine with a fabric that fits the person receiving the place mats or a fabric I like if I am keeping them. They will be reversible this way. I also use a lot of pins to be sure it is all smooth and won't shift when I stitch the pieces together. So find some designs you like and start stitching some. There is no right or wrong way to do them. You are the artist.
