Inspired by Sonia Showalter's garden flag font, does anyone know the name of the nylon fabric that is typically used to make garden flags? I ordered some rip stop nylon fabric off ebay and it was crispy, smooth, and paper like and not at all what I was looking for.

I used rip stop fabric for my camo tent, you'll have to look back in "my post" to see.It is suppose to be good for the outside.Tell me what do you hang the flag on/with? Where do you get the hanger/stake?

Maybe I just got some cheapo rip stop. I will buy the gift recipient an L shaped gardenstake to hang it. I believe they sell these at wallmart for around $7 but I got a much higher quality one at my local garden nursery for $10. I think the quality difference was worth the extra money.

Rip stop will last longer in the weather outside. Was the crispness what you did not like? I too want to make some flags. Hugs. Nan W

It was very thin, wrinkly, and crinkly. It was about half the ply of what I was looking for and didn't have that slight texture that I am used to. Instead it was smooth but had a subtle waffle square pattern in the fabric that was visible close up but not palpable with your finger or fingernail. I will probably just use it and make sure the flags have a front and a back. I am going to use Sonias flag font for Christmas presents for a few dear friends.
