What can I put in the water to stop the red dye from bleeding into my white FSL pieces?

Have you already had this happen, or are you afraid it will? I;ve never heard of embroidery threads bleeding. That would surely be something the thread manufacturers would make sure of. What brand of thread are you using?

the threads are colorfast, fsl wouldn't bleed but if you used white thread on a red fabric background then the fabric might .in that case do a test stitch first

The little cloth like things are called Color Catchers. You will find them with all the laundry stuff.

There is a cloth you can buy that collects excess dye, I am not sure what it is called, check supermarket.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try the vinegar and salt and also the supermarket. I have a bunch of snowman ornaments to make and I don't want a little bow tie to cause my snowman to have a pink cast instead of white.

The old cure used to be salt, I think, but these days one can buy a product called Run Away or something similar, so maybe it's worth checking at the supermarket.
