HI ALL HAVING A VERY SAD DAY SOME HOW MY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE HAD A HICK UP AND I LOST 3/4 OF MY PATTERNS.I DONT KNOW HOW IT HAPPENED.I AM SO UP SET.SOME FROM PLACES THAT I BOUGHT I CAN RE DOWN LOAD BUT OTHERS LIKE CUTIES OR ALL MY FREE BEES LIKE THE NEW ALPHABETS FORM CUTIES AND AMAZINGEMBROIDERY ARE ALL GONE,OH WELL THATS LIFE..I WISH I CAN FINE A COMPUTER EXPERT TO LOOK AT THE HARD DRIVE.....PRAY THEY WHERE JUST MOVED SOME WHERE...LUCY

Just recently I recovered from a nasty, nasty virus. I thought I lost a lot. The bozo that I am went bananas trying to save what I could.I put them on cd-rom's, dvd,s flash drives and my external hard drive. I also have 2 external hard drives since my first one had the usb thingy break off and unfortunately those designs are just sitting til I figure out what I can do about them. Back to finding your designs...I put what I could find back on my computer but still saw a lot of designs missing..parts of alphabets I knew I had but no where to be seen. The other day on a whim I typed in 'alpha' in the seach box of internet explorer because that is the most common phrase. I found alphabets I thought were long gone. Now I am working on entering other phrases and hopefully find more elusive designs. Perhaps it will work for you.

I TOO AM SORRY ABOUT THIS LUCY. ON THE BRIGHT SIDE THIS IS GOOD INFORMATION TO US ALL WHO SAVE TO EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES ONLY. BETTER TO HAVE A BACK UP TOO ! BEST OF LUCK FINDING THEM I TOO HAVE BEEN THERE

Since I have been using Carbonite, I have not lost a single design. Yeah!

I'm so sorry. I hope you can get someone to retrieve them for you.
Have you tried using "windows explorer" to see if you might be able to find them by name.

I feel for you. Next time back up at least twice. Yes, I use the external HD and also put them on jump dries. Double safe. And it's a lot easier to grab the jump drives if there's a fire. But as careful as I am, I've still been in your place. Did you open everything on the drive to see if you happened to drag them to somewhere else. And the right person can recover them. Good Luck.

I, too, had an external hard drive...all my files were on it...I plugged it in one day to add additional files...and Wham...it came up with errors and no files were to be found...ever again...it was only 8 months old and a top quality brand as well...fortunately all my files were also on flash drives...so I lost nothing...I will never purchase another external hard drive again...

Lucy, I hope you can get help and the files can be recovered. When you can back up those files. I have actually started using 2 back up systems, both an external hard drive, and thumb drives for each website. And my husband has said he wants to use an outside source (paid) to be sure.

I feel for you, I had the same thing happen 3weeks ago some of which I hadn't put to disk yet.. Have you had it checked some times a tec guy can get them back just depend if the power pack died or if the memory board fried, heres hoping it was you pwer pack...

So sorry for you as I know how you feel. I had the same thing happen to me. Some designs I had already backed up but there were a lot of them that I hadn't gotten to yet. We should do our back ups on a daily bases but who really does that. Live and learn but I didn't as I still have a lot that need backed up and I say I'll do it tomorrow but tomorrow never comes. My external hard drive is BROKEN - only nine months old and a top quality one - BROKEN - all my designs were on it and I was in the process of cataloguing them all - GONE. I still have some designs on my computer but all my backups and designs bought and free from past years are GONE. The computer experts were not able to get them back and I took it to two different people. I am now going to back up another way as well as an external hard drive. VERY SAD

I'M SURE YOU TRIED LOOKING IN YOUR RECYCLE BIN. THAT IS THE FIRST PLACE I GO. SOMETIMES MINE GO MISSING AND I DO A WORD SEARCH AND FIND THEM IN THE WRONG FILE. A COMPUTER PERSON POSSIBLY COULD RETRIEVE THEM IF THEY ARE STILL ON THE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE AND GOT DELETED. WISHING YOU THE BEST ON RECOVERING YOUR FILES.
