Welcome to cute. I am fairly new to embroidery, but this site is wonderful. You might try a Pfaff dealer if there is one in your area. I have a Bernina machine and they have classes on using the Bernina machines. Also, the software may have classes on using it. This will tell you the what your software will do and how to use your machine to get the best results. Now I travel 120 miles one way for classes that interest me. Good luck and have fun with your machine.
There is a free embroidery program given by OESD called ARTSIZER.
It opens and saves the following formats.
ART (4versions), ART x stitch, Pes, Ped, XXX, Hus, Pec, Pcd, Pcm, pcq, Pcs, Emd, Shv, Emd, Gnc, Vp3, Vip, Sew, Exp, DST, Jef.
In addition you can resize, rotate, mirror both horizontal and vertical, change colors. Very handy for the above name jobs and the price is right.

The hoopsize is the size of the sewing field and thus of the maximum design you can use. The grand hoop probably has 2 ways to attach it to your machine, A and B. A large designs (i.e. larger than the embroidery fields) needs to be split in software before you can use it. I loaded a designs of mine (flower1) in 5D, chose your hoopsize and saved it - it was automatically split and saved in two parts, named PAflower1 and PBflower1.A and B referring to the hoop. I add 3 pictures, the first shows the lines that indicate the two embroidery areas, the second I moved the two parts to show how it is split, and 3 the embroidery designs..
thank you thank you thank you! for your time and kindness,so if I understand correctly I do need software. i have 5D but its just the organiser part, no editing from what I can figure out.
5D Organiser is just what the name says, you can sort by size, stitch count, name; save, etc. but you can't edit. It is part of the software, not sold separately, but it is the only part you can use without a dongle.
5D Embroidery (Extra) is the customising part that let you split, add text, resize, has an Encore function that let you repeat a design in straight lines or a circle (like those snowflake designs) and much more. Don't buy it second hand unless it has a dongle to go with it or it won't function.
Welcome to Cute! Sounds like you have some great answers...and congrats on your machine..sounds like a nice one...and you have some nice size hoops...your 225mm x 140mm is approximately 9" x 5.5" and your 250mm x 225mm is about 10" x 9"...an easy way to figure millimeters is...about every 25mm is equal to 1"...it is not exact, but it will get you pretty close! You will love this friendly and helpful community...
You have some good answers, so I just want to say, Welcome, I'm glad you are here. Ask any questions you want to. We were once new at this, too and love to help when we can. ;)
Welcome to cuties!! congrats on your free machine! google the machine to see if there is an instruction book.or go to machines site and ask for one. you might have to pay but great investment. i only have 4x4 capabilities but also love this so much. yes! just ask questions.this is a great site for help. sincerely, lynne
Hi, and welcome to cute. You have a good sized hoop there. what you need is Wilcom TrueEsizer. Here is the link. It is easy to use, however if you have any questions, feel free to ask. It is recommended that you only go up or down a maximum of 10%. For me it depends on the design, it is always recommended that you test.
