Can anyone tell me if you embroider on Pleather do you need a special needle or can you use an embroidery needle?

Here is the result with pleather that I did. I did use wss on top so that it would be easier to sew & I slowed my machine down too but my pleather is very thin sew I 'm sure that slowing it down was not necessary. But my design was not very dense on the pleather. I don't think a heavy design would work at all but I have not tried that either.

Glad it worked out - cute design. I bought some leather needles for the pleather I got - but have not done anything with it yet. Maybe soon now.....

The leather needles are like a tiny knife ...I don't think I would use them. A regular needle will punch thru and not cut.

I have not heard of it , would it be lycra in the UK, or is it a new fabric.

It is the ''imitation'' leather...hence pleather (plastic leather). I did a shoulder bag a while ago and posted pix here--it was from my ipad and I've deleted already or would repost. I had no problem at all--unstitched the lining in order to lay it on the hoop, and I used a regular size 14 needle. Was very pleased with outcome. It was Katulle's "leg" and I repeated 3 times.

Sandy has answered me but didn't say whether she changed the needle or not. I'm pretty sure she didn't but you've already given your fabric a test run and that's good. She sent me some pictures of the costumes but one was made from a pleather tablecloth that was heavily embossed, giving the appearance of embossed leather and is decorated with crystals and the second one, the photo of which I can't send was quilted. I crystalled this costume when I was staying with Sandy three Christmases ago and the quilting sewed perfectly and very easily. No machine embroidery, though. Not much help, hey, but nevertheless it made for an exciting day.
Good luck with your embroidery.

You can use an embroidery needle. The only thing I have to try and remember is not to set my design to start and end in the center because like leather when your needle goes down, there's a hole.

My daughter sews pleather for dance costumes sometimes. I've contacted her and I'll let you know what she says.
