We had a severe thunder and lightning storm here yesterday lunchtime. The lightning struck a large standing dead tree. Made such a loud bang and flames. A limb was thrown through the air and knocked a bit out of the transformer that supplies power to the house. We only had partial power. I went around and turned off all power points including the one the supplies power to my modem. This morning the modem does not work. Lucky I have a mobile internet device. Was going to cancel the satellite one anyway so it has just hastened things up a little. I now understand how lightning can start bush fires. Shirley

Lightening can be so scary and so cool at the same time. Glad everything is OK.

Maybe you can claim it on your insurance , a few years ago we got new cordless phones replaced after a thunder storm. Awhile ago one night the transformer across the street took a lightning strike during heavy rain storm & the fire brigade turned up , to put it out but the rain did the job because the wind was blowing the hose water away from the transformer.

Not really worth the hassle. I was going to change Internet Providers anyway. Just makes me do it now. Shirley

My sister when she lived at a more NW area of Tassie than you, Shirley, wouldn't go without an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS). It might be worth you investing in one, if it's likely to ever happen again. I hope none of your machines etc took a hit. Not so bad if the iron and the stove go bung, LOL.

I used to have one of those UPS Supply boards. That had problems and when I had it fixed it did not like my Desktop PC for some reason. I gave that the flick also. I now use good quality surge boards on all Electrical Appliances.

I am happy you are well and your modem took the bump instead of one of your important machines...
Hugs and be safe!

Northern Tasmania. Yes the Electricity people was here within an hour and had the transformer fixed. Power to everything except the modem. It may even have done something to the satellite dish on the roof. Anyway I was going to change to a different supplier. Just makes me do it sooner than later. Shirley

I am also on Satellite, but it is all I can get in south east Qld where I am. Did not realize you got violent storms over there..
