I have been asked to explain my tips for embroidering with Metallic Thread. While on holiday I came across this gold Metallic Thread & although it was pricey it was my first metallic purchase & I thought I would use it often. The ting with this particular thread is it has this plastic dome over top of it with a rubber cap that comes off. The thread is Hemingworth Metallic Thread HEM9011 #14454 & I use this plastic dome over top of my red Metallic (all my metallic thread is small cones) & I don't put the thread on my machine to run it I put it on my Thread stand to the right of my machine, if the thread comes off upright it seems to glide smoothly & if it is coming off this plastic dome it doesn't get to tight to pull & then mess things up. Once I figured this out the Metallic that I thought I could never use I now have smooth sailing with them. mmmh I wonder as I type this if I could use this for my neon thread too? That gave me serious trouble as well I will have to try that too. I hope that this helps someone as it did me. I guess the price of the thread $8.50 was worth it after all.......

Interesting contraption!! I always use my thread stand, even for regular thread, it lets the thread relax and I don't get shredding or nests, and it's great for metallic. I also tend to use a net over the metallic, because it really does unwind from the spool very fast, and sometimes "puddles" up at the bottom and gets a tangle right there, not even at the needle. You'll have to let us know how this doodad works out, looks like quite a good answer to the metallic problem, too. Thanks for sharing!! Hugs, Marji

It is wonderful Marji, I wish that I had thought of it sooner. As for the thread stand I have always used one of some form or another just easy to hold larger spools. Glad that you like it

I am glad you are able to use the thread now. I hope you try it with the neon thread. I prefer to use my threads in the upright position rather than horizontal. If someone does not have a thread stand, they can put the thread in a cup too. Just be sure the thread can not tangle in the fly wheel.

Good use of that dome. The metallic threads tend to unravel off the cone too fast and some tension really helps.

I recemtly bought Metalic thread from Anna Bove and am very pleased with it. They suggest the thread nets be used with it so I got them also. Works great. The nets will keep the thread in place when not in use too. Useful for all threads.
