I just received a letter from our telephone company...we have a bundle package which includes cell phone, home phone and internet...its pretty reasonable, but starting January they are discontinuing doing bundles and charging outrageous amounts for each item...I don't think that it is fair, but there isn't anything any of us can do...we don't have options as far as internet and home phone lines...I just don't want to pay 75.00 for internet and don't think we should have to...is anyone else's this high

They will work with you as they don't want to loose customers. We called up and told them we couldn't afford their service and they dropped $40 off our bill. Can't hurt to give them a call.

Holy cow!! Do a lot of looking around, and call the phone company and be firm with them, you want to keep what you have. I have Verizon, home phone and DSL internet, and I thought $60 for both was outrageous! Here in Erie, PA, Time Warner Cable is advertising some kind of internet for 14.99 a month with free installation right now. I don't have cable, too far out in the country, but might look into Time Warner, or lots of other options. These costs are getting out of hand entirely, especially for people on limited income. I watch local stations with my old rabbit ears, because cable got way too high for 200 channels of "Nothin on again!" And Hughes net, the satellite internet, also priced itself out of possibility, because of all their speed and other wonderous upgrades. I would have paid less for less, if you know what I mean, but it's upgrade or nothing. They're killing us, we'll be going back to tin cans and string soon. If this goes too much higher, I won't be able to afford it, either. Good luck, hugs, Marji

My internet is now $75 (that is all we have from the cable company). This is for the next to fastest level of service (I work from home - would not pay this much if it was just for fun). If that fee is for faster service - and you can use something a bit slower - it might be less expensive?

Could you ask them to keep you as a grandfathered account? I used to work for a phone company in California and we would do that.

I can't disconnect my land line as my cell phone signal is to poor (because of trees) so must use land line just in case of an emergency or not able to drive to an area where I get a signal. That cost me around $30.00 a month just to have.

Was just talking about this over breakfast this morning. Will look into it in the New Year. Shirley

I think it's becoming more and more common to only have mobiles and no landline in many areas, Pauline, though I don't think the landline is a huge part of what I pay for these days. With the huge cost of electricity and gas etc, we all seem to be looking very carefully at what we can save on these days.

Mine is $84+ for same--100 free LD minutes. The tv cable is sending us to poorhouse! $89, going up another $6 1/1/14. We have no option-- city council has a contract...gets fees, and will not approve any company a license to compete. I have the minimum channel tier. There should be a law!

I don't have cable or satellite...can't afford it. I get 4 channels with my old school antennae FOX, Create TV, Independent Station. So I use Hulu, Discovery, History and A&E, plus check CBS, ABC & NBC online to watch other shows. When they went from analog to digital I lost all the main stations ABC, NBC & CBS. It will cost me $25.00 to get those when they get the lines from our phone company out our way sometime late next summer. Not sure if I will be able to afford even that by then. I do have a nice local 100 plus year old independent phone company that is really good to people, so I guess they are comparable to the big name companies (but with personal service) they have put in some of the best underground fiber optics that are available in this state. It's the cable companies that make me angry I think they were the driving force to get analog gone and a much poorer signal digital in place so they could force people to get cable or satellite.
