ITH placemat - made in my macrohoop (the overlap was a challenge!) The underside is only stitched around 3 sides. This forms a pocket, into which I have put a piece of (recycled) table protector. If you look carefully you will see that I didn't get the grain of the bottom layer quite straight. I've made two so far, hope to get some more finished for Christmas!

It is lovely, the cross stitch is lovely. Never mind the back, just do not let your guests turn over the placemat.
