searching using Cuteembroidery and what ever I am looking for in google has answered so many questions for me so far. Thanks all for the help.
Hi Maria, I am another one of the Poly people. I do mix brands too, but I usually use Florianni as my basic thread. I love Metro for my shadiing. I chose the colors I want to match the end product I want. Welcome to Cute!
Welcome! I tend to use poly thread. I use Isocord. I tried Rayon and when I bleached the towel the thread faded. With Poly thread I can bleach as usual and the colors do not fade. Hope all the info helps ! Lots of people here give great advice. You are in good hands. Suzanne
I use madeira, sulky, thread art, metro, coats and clark, RA, ameth as well as a few others. I mix rayon and polyester if I need to, and I have never had any problem. I usually use my better quality rayon thread for monograms but I still have good results with polyester especially the madeira poly neon.
Hi Welcome to Cute! I hope to see what you are up to in Projects.
Mostly I choose my on colors and I use Metro Threads. However on some occasions when I want to come as close as possible to the original design I use the following conversion chart. I included the link
You can go to Google and type: cute embroidery + thread brand
I just got 15 different links to discussions on thread brands.
I too use Sulky Rayon. Although you will be warned about rayon not washing well, I can tell you from over a decade of embroidering that I have only had 2 designs fade with Sulky. They were bleached. My Bernina loves Sulky and she's a bit picky about her thread. I have some thread conversion charts somewhere, but I rarely use them, I just choose my own colors.
If there is a design that I know I will be repeating I will save it with my Artista software with Sulky colors chosen.
Welcome to Cute Embroidery.
I wrote something and then the internet connection had a fit.
I have complete sets of Madeira rayon and Marathon polyester plus a motley collection of others. I usually don't mix rayon and polyester, but I mix brands all the time.
Hi, Maria,
I mostly use Metro threads, and have had good luck with them not breaking as badly, as some others. Vibrant colors, too. I eyeball colors, and usually print off a paper copy of the design to use to compare the colors needed. Making notes of which thread colors you used for a particular design on the paper copy, will aid you later to achieve the same results, should you choose to stitch the same design again.
I have found that the more expensive threads, are not necessarily better threads!
Hugs, Angel
i pick whatever colors i like .i mix many threads hugs and welcome to cute Hugs Carolyn
Hi Maria, I personally choose my own colours to suit the design I'm making and to match with the colours it's going to go with.
I use Brother, Metro, Sulky and Robison Anton threads mainly. I too prefer Polyester over Rayon. Love Chris
WELCOME ABOARD...I always pick the colors to the theme I am doing and what I would like to see the design look like...
welcome
I pick my own colors, although I have a notebook to keep track of the ones I used so I can repeat if necessary
I love the notebook idea. I use a digital notebook program called Evernote http://www.evernote.com to do all kinds of note keeping. I can record things on multiple devices as they all run the evernote app. The best part is that its free. I currently have all my threads recorded in a note that I can easily pull up while I am out shopping. Keeping a journal of my projects is a great idea. Thanks!
My conversion program is less than perfect so I choose colors that look best together and against the fabric from my 198 spools of solid colors of polyester thread from ThreadArt. Additionally, the inclusion of variegated or twist threads can also increase texture and delightful shading. (I prefer polyester thread for its colorfastness since most of my embroidery projects are on some type of garment.) There are no rules against mixing brands or fiber content of threads.
I use about 90% Robison-Anton rayon, but have bits of other brands where R/A does not have those shades. They all mix well except Floriani (much shinier and stands out) and Isacord (slightly less shiny and slightly thinner, which is useful in some designs.) The Floriani is lovely by itself. Sometimes I eyeball the colors or choose another whole look, but usually follow where I have a good R/A list to stitch by. Welcome to our happy little sewing nirvana.
And I use an Ott light to select them under, when it's not perfect sunlight.
Welcome to Cute Embroidery!
You have some answers...
I have used exact colors before. Now, I use whatever thread I have that looks right. I never seem to have any problems with doing that.
Hi and Welcome to Cute...there is not really a search engine on Cute...as far as threads are concerned...I use mostly Metro threads...they are polyester, very shiny, come in 166 colors and are inexpensive to buy, but quality to sew with. I also have some RA, some Coats & Clarks, some Madera, some Superior...etc..I will choose by color to fill in what I have...I do prefer poly to rayon, but I will use rayon if I need a color I can't find in poly...I am sure you will get lots of opinions from other Cuties...Glad you joined our community...
Hi there will be different answers from different people. I mix my threads. I also choose the thread colours I use for each design I sew. welcome to Cute and happy sewing with colours of your choice and thread brands of choice.
