Hi All, My new obsession is smock pleating. I have bought a pleater but just can't work it out. When I got it home the needles fell out and now not 100% sure how to insert them correctly. Have tried two ways but can't get it to pleat either way. Have watched various YouTube videos. HELP!

I have a ton of smocking patterns or smocking plates as they are called... I can send you some by regular mail .. just private message me and let me know if you want for boy or girl.. I still have my pleater and plates and tons of smocking magazines.. especially Australlian smocking and embroidery if you can get those off ebay they are well worth the price.. the magazine has tons of designs in it and patterns to make the outfits also.. at least 6 or more per magazine.. also Sew Beautiful magazine..

Thank You for your answer and the offer of patterns but I m not doing smocking for children. Wish you lived around the corner so you can tell me what I am doing wrong. I just have to be patient as my group of Ladies will be here on the 20th and one of them has a pleater. Also when I get back to my Lace classes in Feb the teacher also has a pleater. I just have to be patient

Thank You for these sites. I have seen the one on YouTube but it is a little out of focus and not as clear for someone who does not know.

I wish I could. I have not stitched it yet, however I did do a hand gather, I will try to get stitching on it soon, I also am considering purchasing the pre-made smocking panels. I think skeldale has them. Good Lucj with this, I am waiting your results.

I have already done some but bought them as a kit and the fabric was already pleated, but I want to pleat my own fabric. I will have to show everyone.

Hope you bought it from a store. They could help you locate someone who has the same model (they work differently) and has some experience to talk you through the process. Good luck in your new venture. I have tried it twice and just didn't click with it, so didn't get as far as buying the pleater.

Actually I bought it from a private person who bought it from someone else and the lady I bought it from had never used it. When I go back to my Lace classes in February I can learn but I am impatient.
