It is beautiful! I have yet to do one, so you have inspired me to pick out my designs and do it. Thanks
Pam you have a beautiful quilt here. I can't believe this is your first. Love your colors also.

You did a wonderful job, yes you sew the top pieces together then sandwich your batting between the top wrong side and backing wrong side then quilt through all 3 pieces. Then bind it. Great job!
It looks great, don't know too much about quilting but I think you did a great job...thanks for sharing.
The piecing looks good to me - I don't know much about the quilting. (That is on my to do list as well)
You have done a lovely job with this. Well done. I love it. Shirley
Fabulous job on your first try! As others have said there is no really right and wrong way - you can embroider before you make the squares or after. You can quilt as you go, etc (there are lots of instructions on how to do this - there are even some patterns specifically for the embroidery machine). I have a foot that is called a "piecing" foot. It has a little bar down the middle to use as a guide. This is what I use to do my stitch in the ditch. You can invisible thread to hide any boo-boos (and we all have them). Keep going, it is beautiful!
Excellent. You did a great job all around and were wise to start with a smaller project. It is more satifying to have a small completed quilt than a huge king size that you don't think will ever get done! Keep up the good work.
I may have misunderstood you about the backing, but you can put the backing on too; after the batting and quilt through the entire "quilt sandwich".
You have done a lovely job, but the best part is that you had fun and created a piece of fabric art.
Well done for a first Quilt ,I hope mine will look as good as that when I get round to do one ,Thanks for showing us Love Sherene X
There is no one right way to make a quilt. There are a lot of techniques that work equally well. What you did is great! I love your quilt and the colors you chose. If you are going to do embroidery on a quilt after the top is done, you need to remember that all that fabric needs to get out of the way when you embroider on it. So you can work in sections and them join them once each section is done.
Sometimes if you have an idea what size the finished project will be you can embroider your design on top of a larger batting square (or whatever shape) & "quilt as you go" to put it together. I can look for links when ever your at that point too it is easier then it sounds. The link is for placemats a youtube video it may help. hugs Loralye
You can make me one it is lovely! I have seen all kinds and your lined up right and by the quilt designs the way you have done helps keep batting in place. I love your edge. You could have did the old tie job or stitched in the ditch on hand work stitched but the way you did is great. Your MIL will beam at this pretty tea table size mat.Hugs Mary
You did a wonderful job here Pam. Yes that is the right way to do it! Your points look terrific! You may want to (stitch in the ditch) sew along the seam edge of the blocks to tack down in the center, so that when it washes it will not bunch up. You can check your batting pk for instructions on how much or how close they recommend the quilting should be. I hope this helps. Hugs Loralye
ooo I have tried stitch in the ditch and it was so bad I did not put it on Cuties . lol
I must try harder . thank you for your help and i am glad you mentioned about a larger quilt bunching .
Hugs pam.
Pam, Loralye is right about additional quilting on larger quilts. If you don't have enough quilting on the lap quilt, bed quilt etc. it will not wash and wear well and eventually the batting will bunch up and even tear apart inside making the entire quilt weak.
Looks excellent Pam are you hooked now???hugs
No Carolyn but it is a skill I wanted to do, and I am looking for comments if it was the right way, if so i will do a bigger one, when I did my GS quilt it looked nice but it was not right , I like you enjoy a challenge. as you have had every day with your arm .
hugs Pam.
