Address book makeover

My address book finally fell apart. I've had it for over 20 years and just love it's size (approx 14.5 x 11.5 cm) and being loose leaf I can easily renew the pages as required.

I took the plastic cover off and was left with 3 pieces of thick cardboard - one having the ring clip attached. (I should have taken a photo of that too - oh well..)

Then to the task of recovering. I embroidered the design only to discovered I did not have enough fabric to cover the book. A quick rummage though my stash found the 2nd material. Cover made up (the embroidery was appliqued my convention sew machine) but the fabric was too 'flappy' for my liking against the clip. I ran a piece of fabric under the clip and under the cover on each side. Great so far. Tried to hand stitch the two pieces of fabric together but there's no bending stiff cardboard. I purchased a curved needle and job done.
This has been a great learning curve. I've done dressmaking for many years but covering this book with a ring binder clip made the 'grey matter' work very hard indeed.
I can see many ways to improve the finish - but then I always can.
Hope you have stayed with me the to end of my tale and have followed my description.

The embroidery is on a CD a have had for some time and I added the words.

Hope to post some more projects soon

you are so brave - I have a full size notebook in the pieces and figuring it out has not happened with me yet. Maybe I can follow your lead. The piece with the spine and rings is so awkward! Hope mine looks as good as yours.

This looks amazing. When we get attached to a favorite item it is hard to make the change. So glad you were able to make it a new pretty cover.

Very Good rescue .. love it..You would never know the emb part was not planned to be that way unless you told us..Just looks like you wanted it 2 colors.. Also enjoyed your info about how you did the work.. Afraid I would not have thought to try to slip fabric under the 3 ring part... Great job.
