One more suggestion.... try to loosen the top tension a number or two and see what happens. This has worked for me on occasions.
Good luck.

Welcome. I'm wondering after hooping did you by chance pull on the fabric to make it tighter. If you did that would stretch your main fabric, causing the puckering when you removed it from the hoop.
Here is a link to emblibrary guides. I use lots of starch and temp fuse spray to keep the sandwich tight. I sometime use a stitch witchery under just the applique fabric and iron it down later.
Thanks for the big welcome the design I was doing was a bought file where the appliqué and embroidery is all in one so I will try some of your suggestions on stabilizing will let you no how I get on thanks again
Welcome to Cute Embroidery!
It depends on the location of the puckering. If your fabric is not too tight and the puckering is all over the project, you may need to use additional (or cut away) stabilizer. In addition to the other suggestions, you might want to look at the order you are stitching on the fabric. If you are combining designs, in a single hooping, you may be experiencing some pulling on the fabric from one (dense) design -- distorting the fabric and causing puckers on the other design.
Hi and Welcome to Cute...I agree with both Sue and 02kar...it could be all or any of those things...also, did you use a fusible backing on the applique piece?
Welcome to the Cute family. I am wondering if you hooped the fabric too tight causing the fabric o stretch. I am sure other Cuties will have ideas also..
Welcome to Cute!
There are a lot of experienced embroiders around here who will be able to answer your question. I'm afraid that I don't have any ideas for you as it sounds to me as if you have done everything right. Perhaps it is something to do with the design you have chosen, or the weight of the fabric.
