Have any of you across the Pond bought the new Brother Scan and Cut machine. Scottie and I saw a demo on TV yesterday and we are soooo tempted. (It is available here in UK next month.)

Have been looking at this for some time only available from Create&Craft in UK for next 6 months £400 if member, seems cheaper in states, to buy from US would like to know if variable voltage US is 110, UK 240, but would love it,

Good point Berny.

Do not forget import duty if buying directly from the States so you could end up with a financial surprise. The company selling here have probably got a deal and therefore I would not be surprised if it then sold at a higher price. Let us know if you buy and from where

asterixsew by asterixsew 31 Jan 2014

For 'financial surprise' I mean a hefty import duty bill which would exceed the cost of the ones being sold in the UK

I have got to have one of these. My birthday is next month and I am seriously dropping hints. Just think of the beautiful quilts I could make with this. Thank you for posting this link.

After this posting I caught up with the machine on a TV prog while away. Interesting but I have not added it to my wish list

Hi Sue
There is a yahoo group created just for this machine

SNCUsers@yahoo.com

I joined because I wanted to see what everyone was saying about the machine. I am torn between this one and the Silhouette Cameo. You may want to join and take a peek just to see what others who have bought the machine thing about it.

My Brother agent bought one for herself and she loves it for cutting fabric - I'm in Australia - I dunno what she paid for it though, I didn't ask. As I was in a hurry I didn't think to ask for a look at it either lol. xXx

Yes, I posted well before Christams the same question. Be aware that there are 2 packages, one is much smaller the other, look for the big one.

When you look at it on Amazon, which is $387 USD with free shipping with Prime, there are also quite a few accessories: the mats, the knife, pens, pen holder. I wonder how expensive it is to use? How would we use it to compliment our embroidery? The price seems reasonable.

An excuse for a visit to the States for you, though could be a tad wet if you went in that great van of yours. Or just be patient and wait for it here

Can you put your own fabric in it to cut it, or do you have to buy their fabric? Do you put the fabric on a stabilizer sheet that is expensive?

spendlove by spendlove 18 Jan 2014

Any fabric, but it may need stabiliser of some sort. The cutting mat is sticky and needs replacing fairly often.

Sorry, another question from me!!! In Embird - you can print your design (such as an applique) - I wonder if you can just scan that print and then cut from it? If it is as easy as that - wow, what a time savings it would be. Right now, I am working on Valentines that require a great deal of cutting!! What do you think?

spendlove by spendlove 18 Jan 2014

I was thinking along the same lines!

rsehorse by rsehorse 18 Jan 2014

Yes, I do think you can

fannyfurkin by fannyfurkin 18 Jan 2014

You can to that, all you need is a print the correct size and you scan it in and it will cut it exactly as you need it.

I noticed Amazon has it for $389 in the US. What is nice about the Amazon site is they have many customer reviews and a bunch of questions and answers. I wonder if it would cut something as thick as felt? I hope someone here, who has one will give us some input on this machine!

I always look for reviews. It will cut felt, leather and vinyl. I think thin chipboard as well.

fannyfurkin by fannyfurkin 18 Jan 2014

it will cut leather apparently. not super thick leather but it will most certainly cut felt.

I am looking at this - go on Amazon and look at them there - they have a couple videos. I saw this at a studio and studied it a bit more....They are about $400 here. I also noticed that some of the big applique digitizers are putting svg. cut files in their designs when purchased so that it can be scanned and you can use and cut your pieces - really neat. This is my next purchase - I am sure.

Saw one yesterday at my sewing store. It can do tiny cuts in amazing detail - very accurate. Not ready to cough up the $500 on sale.

What does it do???

spendlove by spendlove 18 Jan 2014

Cuts intricate shapes in paper, card, fabric and more. Unlike other cutting machines, you do not need to buy cartridges. You can scan anything and then cut it out. It can't make a cup of tea though.

What a shame a cuppa would be nice..

I was at an Anita Goodesign show last week and saw it there (the dealer that sponsored the show is a Brother dealer - they have lots of brother machines, etc. at the show). It would be nice to have pre-cut applique fabrics for sure! It is amazing what it can do - just can't justify that much expense right now ($500 US). Will be interesting to see if any cuties own one and can share their thoughts.
