I know we have several new Cuties. Here is a bit of advice I was given long ago and I think should share it again. I, like most everyone else bring my designs from the computer to the machine using a USB. I keep one USB that I use to transfer designs from my software to the machine. I never use it to download designs from the internet. Even USBs can become corrupted. I do this so nothing bad can be transferred to the machine(s) I also only load the USB with the designs I need to finish the project I am working on at the time. I never ever have more than a dozen or so designs on it. I delete designs as I finish a project. How do I know this? Because I have corrupted a machine. Our machines have limited memory and I do not want to overload it. I do use USBs to back up designs as well as an external hard drive. I believe I can never have too many back up systems to protect my design stash. I hope this helps someone.

You guys, What I did also is I had my computer guy put in a Extra Hard Drive Well I have 2 Hard drives, and 3 CD/DVD drives, For Burning CD
for my Website Designs Sales.
I never Store anything on the Main C Drive! so if it does get hit by something my Nortons can not protect it from, or it does Crash, I still have my L Drive with all of my Work For safe Keeping.. they just hook it up and all is good. you Can get a extra Hard drive these Days For hardly Nothing, and Have it put it! and then I also have all the other Back up ways also..
I hope this gives you some Ideas.

I couldn't agree more. I had a crash last Friday and thought I had lost quite a bit. But thanks to my backups I managed to get 99% of it back. I use the jump drives and the external HD also. Used to burn cds then went to dvds. The jump drives are so easy to use. I think I have a dozen or maybe more. Write what's on the one and use a piece of tape over this little piece of paper and I know what's there.

When I reach a point that I need a new Control Folder, the old one becomes my E File #what ever. And I take the old control folder and my daily backups off the jump drive by just formatting the drive. Then it's ready to use on the next batch.

You can scan your USB for viruses and malware same as you do your hard drive. Plug USB in, note the drive designation and scan.

Thank you for this Karen. I also only load very little on my USB for my embroidery machine as I think it is too much for the machine to digest.

Since my pc-crash I'm make a back-up every hour (this is working in the background). Still find empty folders with designs that are lost now :o( The screen of my brother is bad so I just have one design at a time on my USB (otherwise I cannot differ between them). Never heard of that problem of a corrupted USB-stick. How do you see this?
Greetings, Bettina

yes Bettina your machine sounds like mine, I have to put just one design in or I can not tell what it is, and have the computer next to it and follow step by step on there. lol

Thank you so much for this advice. My new machine uses a USB so I'll now keep it with the toggle for my software. My previous machine used a memory card and I kept two just for my embroidery machine - just because it was convenient to have them handy not for security reasons. I'm so sorry you had to learn this valuable tip the hard way.

Excellent advice about the keeping USC's clean. I wonder if a corrupted file took down my brother PE-basic card. As far as my main design back up, Carbonite has a great system, I have had to do 2 major restores after getting infected, and all was secure. It also takes out problem files returning to my computer. I had a few corrupted files that did not come back from the restore. Totally worth the $5 a month.

I also do this, I do not over load my machine, I love it to much. I have to say that one of them last week had 4 bad files on it. I was glad I had saved them on another USB. I have had some USB'S go bad. Hard to say what I have lost over the years. Good Luck on health problems. Sandy

An update on my vertigo. I am still battling it. It is a very stubborn case, I guess.
