Thank you all for the wonderful comments, we went to Sydney today and bought the vintage dining table from an advertisement on Gumtree (similar site to Ebay) it is a round Solid oak extension table made around 1870 and it fits beautifully in our small dining area. I love it!
The jury is still out on the flavorstone cookware, I keep burning things!. LOL! I can't seem to get used to using the lower heat to cook with....
At least the pots clean out fabulously easy without soaking or scrubbing.
I did cook a great pot roast of beef and vegetables, took just over three hours on low heat and it was 2.9 kg, so a pretty large piece of meat. It was scrumptious and quite a nice change being able to cook a pot roast in the full heat of summer without nearly passing out from heat exposure.
I also managed to cook some fish fillets (without burning them) and scrambled some eggs, added some cooked rice and vegies to it to make a fried rice. NOTHING stuck to the pans and it was a quick wipe out with some paper towel. Even the vegetables I burnt very badly came clean off the pan and the pan swished clean with some warm soapy water, a huge change from scrubbing my Corningware saucepans. OH and I made gravy and it poured out of the pan so cleanly there was nothing left to clean off the saucepan.
Yep, I'm happy with them and once I get used to turning the gas down the results can only get better. I can recommend them.
Now back in the real world, we had Ray's Mum in hospital for a hernia operation on Wednesday and we brought her home on Thursday only to have the worst possible night with her as the after effects of the anaesthetic made her Dementia and Altzheimers far worse than it has ever been. She wouldn't stay in bed and got out so many times between 11 pm and 6 AM that I was too scared to go to sleep. I kept getting up to find her in all sorts of situations: standing inside her wardrobe; standing outside the toilet staring inside (the door was open and the light on) saying she wanted to go but it was occupied; standing in the bathroom staring at the towels on the railing; the scariest being when I stopped her just in time as she was going out through the French doors onto the upstairs verandah at 4:30AM and I had to manhandle her, fighting me all the way, back to bed. I couldn't stop shaking all over afterwards as she could have fallen over the balcony onto the concrete below or down the stairs.......
Then, when I finally drifted off to sleep around 5:45 AM, she came into our room screaming out "who are you people, who are you?" And from there it just got worse.
She didn't know who Ray and I were and she kept saying Ray was trying to make her kick the bucket. Thankfully when the district nurse came to dress mum's op site she recognised the dire straits we were in and she took control by organising for MIL to be admitted to hospital where they will keep her for up to a month. While she is there the Social Worker and Geriatrics specialist will try to get her a permanent placing in a nursing home, hopefully, without US having to pay nearly $300 a fortnight (on top of ALL her pension) out of our meagre income.
Life is so cruel turning us into blithering idiots, stripping us of our dignity and causing hardship and suffering to our families, all because we live longer.
I'm afraid the happiness of our Lotto win has been rather short lived as we come to grips with MIL's worsening condition.
Hope you find a nice secure NH for her. I have worked in a few and they are out there. Good Luck.
Sometimes life is good :-) Have Happy Times around the new dining table with family and friends and enjoy having coffee with your dear
friend Chris too. Wishing a very Happy Sunday

OMG... I haven't seen a woolworths in years.. lol Congrats on the money. Where do you live?
Linda
We're in Australia, Linda. I'm about to go pay a visit to a Woolworths myself (but in a different State to Meganne). They were called Safeway until a number of years ago. We also have 'Big W' which is the department store line of the same business. When folks in the US mention Walmart, that is Kmart to us :)
We have Woolworths here in South Africa. It is exactly the same as M&S in the UK - food, everything.
Congrats on the win. It is a double win with the tickets having been a gift.
Enjoy.
Wow what a wonderful surprise good on you and Ray... enjoy...soozie
Way to go! Good news! Great to be able to get that new dining table and have it paid for for you (so to speak)! NEXT! It usually runs in 3's, so what's next?
Thats fantastic news. Congrats , Bet CHRIS IS KICKING HERSELF.. No not really. Happy for you we are :)).
No, I'm not kicking myself Pauline - I've never bought a lottery ticket in my life! Just happy that they have won though. Love Chris
Nice things happen to nice people! I have always believed the old saying "What goes around, comes around" Enjoy it!
That is a wonderful unexpected surprise. Like the other cuties I was wondering about he Woolworths store you mentioned and found this: Woolworths Ltd in Australia has no connection with the F.W. Woolworth Company in the United States, nor the Woolworths Group of UK.
Congratulations! Glad it went to someone that never wins much. Enjoy.
Congratulations Meg!! It sounds as though 2014 is starting off good and will be a fantastic year for you. Glad to hear that you and Ray will be treating yourselves to a new table.
