Is it still possible to have an original idea? If I think I have one, how do I really know? This is an interesting conundrum as there are probably 100's of websites out there with embroidery designs.

Today I have been trying out a method for making an ITH purse with the zip in the top rather than the side and still having a lining with no raw edges. I've posted pictures in Projects (see link). The question is - has it been done before?

I have an old diskette by Husqvarna called Pretty Purses in the Hoop. Must be at least 13 years old. Zip and embroidery were done in the hoop, side seams have to be done using a sewing machine. I still use those designs or a similar method as I know it produces flawless results. Like you I enjoy coming up with different construction methods. I also use ITH techniques for things like two pocket flaps - best way to get them identical.

The idea of replacing sewing by ITH stitching is an old one, but the variations in shapes and construction are endless. Like car manufacturing, the idea may be the same, but the number of models is enormous (and my brothers think I am a complete moron not being able to distinguish one brand from another). And so is the variation in mugrugs and bags and soft toys.

But I bet someone will come up with a completely new idea somtime.

I have seen something like this before. Can't remember where or when though! The only difference was that the side seams were finished on an ordinary sewing machine. I hate having to hoop more than once, so for me, this would be an easier method. Also you would be able to make bags bigger than your hoop size. Good luck with your project. Regards Suet.

Thanks - I can't resist the challenge of making in the hoop though!

OK, I'm curious. Would it work on both top and bottom of hoop and require a double flipping of the fabric to reach the finished product?
(Don't you just love a challenge?)

This one is "doing my head in!"
The top and bottom with flipping is how I do "normal" ith zipped purses. The new one needs two hoopings (as well).

You mean like your little doggie purse? I think I can see how in positioning the fabric pieces, you could get it to be lined. I must say, I have not seen any of these done in the hoop in my internet wanderings. You must be enjoying this creative venture. Go for it!!!

It is a different technique to the doggie you tried out for me. Thanks for remembering!

I have had a look around...are any of these similar?
I keep reading about on in ThreadsnScissors but I did not find one yet.

I really like that site. HOWEVER, I do not like that butterfly thing that pops up. I have popups blocked, but it still comes up. I can't see what's there when it pops up. I try to hurry & get on another page before it pops up! If I don't, I just close out. I wonder if they know they may be losing customers with that thing?

I have a double block on pop-ups...so I don't see it. I am glad I don't. Pop-ups bother me too!

Thanks - I've had look at that and the method isn't the same. I think with that one there will be raw edges along the zip. (Unless I am missing something!)

It is easier to ask forgiveness than to ask for permission. Is that like the ends justifies the means? Not when it comes to copyright laws! Lol!
