I love scrappy, it somehow seems closer to the original quilters who used up every scrap of good fabric from worn out dresses, curtains, etc. to make quilts to keep the family warm. And the color scheme goes with most anything, hee hee hee. Is there an advantage to foundation piecing on the waxed paper, or was it just that you had it to hand? Old telephone book pages work well, too, and are very light weight. You did a fantastic job on this, I just love it!! Hugs, Marji
Thank you for loving my quilt, I love it to...I think I read somewhere about sewing something on wax paper and then I remembed the two boxes of wax paper squares I bought years ago from a defunk paper co. I used them to flatten hamburger patties for BBQ, they were handy so I used them..Then they got put away for years until I read about the sewing on wax paper, so far I have not used one whole box, so I shall use them for making scrap quilts. Thanks again,,.....Evie
Can I ask why you did not put batting inside this? I was just wondering?
Because it is very heavy with all the pieces and thread and the back, believe me it keeps me very warm.
i never add batting to my quilts i simply use polar fleece as its light and warm and washes easier.Even i quilting its perhaps time to move on with how they are assemble
I have not tried fleece in my quilts. but then I have them quilted now and she uses cotton which I like because is is thin, But in the past when I quilted them I used poly.cotton with good results. Do you mean how I assembled this quilt?
what a wonderfully vibrant quilt It would brighten the dullest of days and you can see the love that went into its creation. Well done.
Thank you, it does make me feel good when I look at it, and here I am making another...I must be nuts..but having fun....
That looks great. And what an excellent way to use up scraps. Nice work - I bet a lot of work has gone into it.
Thank you...It took awhile but I was having fun mixing and pulling strips from a big tub of scraps that the time just flew by...
Very eye catching quilt Evie. I know this would have taken hours and hours to complete, so well done to you. I have some layer cake fabrics sitting here in one of my boxes and I keep looking at it and looking at it. I suppose one day I'll do something with it. Love Chris
Thank you Chris, you had better get with the program girl,
time waits for no one. Once you start time will fly and you will be having so much fun....
Your scrappy quilt is just beautiful! So very colorful.
Love your quilt. I know it took hours and hours to make.
I have never thought of using waxed paper for a foundation. I use used dryer sheets after I run them through the wash.
I love your quilt. I am a scrappy quilter myself.
If you can find the boxes of wax paper sheets they work great...I got mind a hundred years ago when a paper place went out of business, I have used one whole box...I cut them to 10.5 inches and then trimed up when covered with strips to 10"...I drew one line on the diagonal from corner to corner and started there and worked out....Try it you will like it!!!
I just love scrappy quilts. This is beautiful. I just went to a quilt retreat (our guest was Bonnie Hunter) this past weekend and there were two big boxes and a large garbage bag of scraps free for the taking. I saw people over and over going through the scraps. I myself got two bags full. When it was time to leave there were still two boxes - for some reason every time some one took a strip out two more went back in. Scraps grow and grow.
Lucky you....I justy love them too and can't quit making scrap quilts...Glad you liked mine, I do....
I LOVE scrappy quilts !!!!!!!!!!!! Beautiful !! Flowers to all !!!

very nice quilt, I hope the next one comes up just as nice as this one.
Love scrap quilts - this is really nice, congratulations !
I am working on some of scraps currently and hope I come close to eye pleasing as this is with quilt I am working on. This is a very nice quilt.
Thank you and you will. it is fun to watch it grow....you neede a lot of strips tho.!!
Wow can you Piece! I hope to build up to this size. So you put a back on it? is it quilted also?
Yes it has a back on it and I quilted it by machine in two pieces and the quilting is 2" apart, then I sewed the two pieces together and put a strip along the seam and used it like bias and hand stiched that down by hand. Then I put the binding on by machine..The strips on the quilt are 2'' wide...The one I am working on are 1'' strips.
I must be nuts.....
I love this quilt, a good way to use some scraps - of which I have millions!
Thank you.... i love scrap quilts, and I have several, and the scraps seem to multiply not shrink....
