Never under estimate what can happen. Last month I had my GS Zack with me shopping. He is 4 years old. He wandered a few feet away. I called to him, "Get back over here". I was wearing flip-flops and he had on sneakers. I walked towards him and he ran towards me. As we met our feet hit. It felt like I had stubbed my toe. Oh the pain. It took my breath away and I had to take a moment or 2 to recover. Then I looked down at my toe and realized it was covered in blood. The tread on his sneaker had ripped off the toe nail on my big toe. So yes, I do understand how accidents happen that you would never expect. Hope your finger is feeling better soon. Hugs, Susan
I think pretty much a lot of us have done this who sew a lot. I know I have!! OUCH it will be sore for a bit , Make sure you soak it... Does it make you feel better that so many have=done this too and you are not a alone? Quick healing!! Suzanne
You are not alone here Sista! I have also done this and still can't figure out how it happened...hope it heals quickly without any fuss...
I have done this twice now and still can't figure out how I let it happen. I mentioned this to a nurse friend of mine and she was appalled I had just pulled it out myself. The first time the needle broke and the half that was in my fingerwas through my nail and it has never grown since without splitting in two at the point the needle went in.
OMG.....I would have fainted if it had happened to me...
hats off to you...you are very brave.
Ouch, I have done this too, a couple of times, the first one was when I was twelve and my Mum was teaching me to sew on an old machine that you ran by turning a wheel by hand, the worst part was having to bring the needle back through where it went in, I was lucky I guess that the needle didn,t break off.I have done it in recent times too, guess I wasn,t careful enough. So baydreamer if you are stupid, you have a lot friends going on the replies, cheers
I just sewed my finger the needle hit the bone and broke in my finger and the point came out right by where the but end of the needle was. never crossed my mind to take a picture had to pull both pieces out with forceps. let me tell you it hurt. SO I know how you feel.
Hug lenamae
This was my second time doing that the other one went through the thumb nail .that was the worse.

You know, I know we'll embroider on pretty much anything that stays still, like rolls of toilet tissue, greeting cards, soap, leather---but are we starting a trend here with fingers? I'm thinking it won't really catch on, you know? Hee hee hee. Seriously, so sorry this happened, hope it heals ok. Y'all might want to STOP the machine before you go after clipping those thread tails or jumps, you know? Maybe y'alls Mommas didn't whack you upside the head for not stopping the machine enough when you were kids, but mine sure did--so did Sister Rosaleen in Home Ec in school, too, and she had a metal ruler! I think they just didn't want to bother calling the ambulance, hee hee hee. You need to quit testing out the endurance of your machines and needles with your fingers, gals & guys.
Done it a couple times and the worst was having to unscrew the needle and pulling it out with pliers. No one was around and even if they were they wouldn't have touched it. I remembered to freeze it some with ice and other than that it healed fine both times. To this day I'm still not sure how I managed either time. So being cautious didn't help from doing it again.
I was shocked to read this message as I just did that myself! After sewing for many years, this was my first time. Luckily the needle did not hit bone but did go through my nail and out the back.
IT DIDN'T HURT!!! can you believe it? Suzanne
Been there. Done that. I think it hurt more pulling the thread out than the needle going in as it happened so quickly. I was working in a Sewing store at the time and the boss asked would I do it again for a TV ad, as the machine (Janome) did not even go into overload. I declined the offer LOL Shirley
Aiiii! That made my stomach hurt to look at it!!! I can't imagine the pain! I was trying to hold some fabric back while doing a little shirt & the needle threader just hit my finger & busted it open...I can't imagine a needle going thru it!!!
Actually didn't hurt that much, but it sure did bleed. The worst of it was I couldn't cut the thread with my left hand . Had to wait for husband to get home. Lucky he wasn't fishing , or I would have had to wait till dinner time.
I know of several folks who have sewn through their finger. My sympathies for a very painful injury.
I had a needle through my big toe when I when 5 years old. I have not done that again, close but not quite!
Having just done this last week, I have no comment! LOL To add insult to injury, the split nail is now trying to separate from my finger and that really is an ouch, ouch, ouch unless I keep it covered. But things could worse. I'm just happy I can continue to sew and type, oh, and cook...
I can't resist - is it machine embroidery or hand embroidery? It does nurt just to look at it. Can't be good.
I never thought it was stupid -- I could just never figure out how people did it. From decades of experience -- I do know better than to say "that will never happen to me" something I used to say as a teenager. I think nearly all of the things I said that about -- have come true.
Hugs!
I don't know why I just went to get the tail end of a thread. And as I was watching the needle brake and continue to go up and down I thought...hmm I better stop the machine. lucky only a 1 needle machine :)
