The boxes are very pretty and your colours are nice.
As promised I had a go at a rectangular one, see http://www.cuteembroidery.com/956...

Another licorice lover! Have you tried the Licorice Spice tea bags by Stash? Don't know if you get them there, but after my telling our oldest son I couldn't find them in the stores, he ordered me some for my birthday last June....100 bags!! I did share with my daughter that is also a licorice lover!
Looks marvelous!! Great idea to make it a rectangle. That would also be good for your hubby's mailbox. Soooo many uses for this cute little box/basket.
Starting with a rectangle you can not place the darts in the middle of the long sides or you would get a diamond shaped basket. So you would have to move them. The distance from the corner would be the same as half the length of the short side. That would
Give you a nice rectangular basket, but it would have too large triangles .
You can reshape those. But that would mean you can't start with a rectangle but with some odd shaped piece.
I'll try it out and show you later.
I like them because they are so easy to make and cute too.
I just thought of this idea too if you make it in to a rectangle it could be a bread basket too! so many possibilities so little time LOL
Starting with a rectangle would not give you a rectangular basket, but a diamond. And the triangles would not be isisceles, but scalene, which could give a nice effect.
I am just visualising it and like to try it out once I am up and about.
