As requested, this was my solution to the thread storage issue. It is a three-sided ex-display unit that you often see in shops, etc. The unit revolves and the base is on casters so it can be easily moved out of the way if necessary. The display unit is made up of peg boards, onto which clip various sizes of hangers to accommodate the thread spools. I bought both the display unit and a job-lot of the hangers very cheaply on FleaBay.
So,...this is the secret "man-cave" we have been hearing about?!! Ok, so where are you then? Why are you not in there working? Some kind of "man holiday" hmmm? Love the thread rack, and OMG - this space is so neat and tidy!!!
I have a wonderful already organized wooden box with 6 drawers all of my thread came in that is easy to use. I now try to get as many of the large cones and keep them in a free standing 4 drawer chest. I am fanatical about keeping my threads covered and away from the sun. (Our permanent home is in Florida). I love the threads displayed like yours though.
That does not look like the same rack as I have. On the blog it does. I understand the knocking off part. I really like this and have 3 racks to hang! I was hoping to figure a way to put them in a box where I can stack them and then lean them forward to get to the back one. I have more windows than wall in my sewing room, and I am reorganizing. Thanks for letting me know monkey hooks are available I saw them on TV a ways back.
Nice assortment of thread, so organized! I keep mine in little plastic drawers to keep them from dust and light. I do like the displayed ones too though. Nice blog!
I had about 1/3 of it taking up a whole, full-sized drawer. But my kids needed the space, and I had a much easier time utilizing the thread that was out. I have to say I really enjoy looking at it too...strange as that may sound.
I try to keep the blind shut when I am not in the room to minimize Sun damage. I had not considered dust...but seemed ok with the ones that didn't fit on the drawer for the past couple years...
If it doesn't start looking dusty our I get sick of looking at it,I will have to embroider a pretty first cover :)
I love the simplicity of these thread holders and your blog was wonderful to read. Love Chris
