One last box (for today anyway!) Airyfairy and I have been exchanging PMs today about possibly making a box in felt so I had to try. For this one I began with two 20cm squares of felt. I used the blanket stitch from my machine to stitch them together and then trimmed the edges with pinking shears. I stitched across the corners with the same stitch and cut away all of the flap.

When I turned it the right way, I realised that if I punched a hole in each corner I could tie up the top with ribbon.
These (Chinese) buttons are a bit too big, but Dennis will probably have something to say about them as well.

This is great! I've been watching everyone make these boxes, and was wondering when I tried to make one about the flaps being up like you did. Now I know that it will work! Love it!

I like your idea of using felt and pinking shears. This makes a wonderful little gift box for that special person and there is still room for embroider. hugs, Susan

Love the idea Sue. It is great,it looks like it could be done with the cleaning cloths from Home Bargains. that look like felt.
Hugs Pam.

Ohhhh... among other things, I'm a container freak. I just love tins, boxes, and fabric hold-alls. Now I just love felt box. Your pictures show clearly the answers to any questions I had. I have three kinds of felt - very soft, slightly stiffened which I like to use for key rings and stiff stuff, and very stiff craft felt. I'm wondering if the soft felt would work (one way to find out, I know) or would I need to stiffen it. I can't turn the stiff felt inside out....... darn it!!!! I'm just going to have to go and have a try, so thank you for the really good instructions.
You little felt box is delightful.

This is made of thin "felt". Actually it is made of mixed fibre cleaning coths which are mega cheap here in UK.
I too am a bit of a container freak.

That worked out very well. That way you don't have that triangle piece. You may not be able to wash them unless you bought the washable felt. It is adorable and a great idea for a gift box!

It's lovely in felt. Thought about holes and ties for my pencil basket, but given the shape that does not work.

I don't know what you mean about the buttons.

This one took all of 10 minutes!

dennis999 by dennis999 19 Feb 2014

Ten minutes!! That's like rubbing salt into an open wound!

And that poor Chinese guy had a quicky with his fret saw - that must put your mind at ease, Dennis.

Well, I'm not so sure Mrs Mops. That Suedewsbury has extremely exacting standards when it come to her button orders.
