As a result of Loralye's challenge I finished a knitting UFO, the cable one. Then I started the blue self-striping one.

My husband saw my renewed knitting enthousiasme and bought me a book that was also published in an English translation - Dutch Traditional Ganseys. It gives patterns from a lot of Dutch fishing communities. Being born and bred in Scheveningen and having seen my grandmothers knit them by the dozen, I decided to do a traditional one in white instead of the traditional indigo or black, and with a somewhat thicker yarn. It was great fun to do my own variation. So I'll be starting the next one.
In the meantime I have some leftovers that cry "Use me too".

Love them, Martine! Well done.
I haven't been knitting for a few years, and I still have a UFO to finish, not to mention a lot of wool waiting for me...... Here is still summer, not a good time to knit but maybe, when it will be cooler, I will try to finish that UFO. Thank you for reminding me!
Hugs, Lidia

I found another UFO this afternoon, front, back and the greater part of one sleave done, and two balls of yarn in a mess. Got that sorted out, so I am ready to finish that one before starting my grandson's request. It is supposed to be winter here, but we skipped that this year, spring flowers are in full swing. The UFO is a cotoon - acryl mix, should make a lovely spring thing.
I hope you finish yours! Hugs, Martine

Absolutely superb. And with winter coming on (later than sooner, I hope) this inspires me to get knitting seriously again, too. The orange/mustard coloured jumper is gorgeous. I love the white one, too.
There really is nothing so comfortable and comforting as wearing a hand-knitted woollie and you've chosen superb patterns.
Will these be for you and your husband or for the grand-children???

The white one was for my 5yr old granddaughter, the others are smaller sizes. I gave it to her yesterday as they were visiting my son (this granddaughter lives in Norway) and 11 yr old grandson asked me to knit him a sweater with zip and collar in red, and his mum showed my a few pictures of crocheted hats she would like for her 9 and 7 yr old girls. So i know what to do when watching the telly, which won't be often now the Olympics are over.

The patterns are beautiful! I think it takes a great lot of patience to keep your place in doing complicated patterns. I did a twisted cable once, and enjoyed it, but had to pay complete attention or I got lost. It was an interesting and rewarding challenge, and I love the way it turned out, but I think I'll stick to machine embroidery, hee hee hee. Beautiful work, Martine! Hugs, Marji

You are right, the cable one was a challenge. I actually took yarn and needles with me on a sailing trip from the Canary isles to Rotterdam intending to do a simple sweater for a grandson, but one of the crew members wore a beautiful cabled sweater, so i watched I got out paper and pencil, counted my stitches, did some arithmetic and came up with the pattern. Whenever I was off watch and not knitting i was asked if I had given up. Came as far as the armholes but when my daughter saw it she said she wanted something simple. So it was stuck in a drawer until Loralye set the UFO challenge. Don't know whom it will fit now, but I'll find a destination for it.

Thank you. Saw my granddaughter today and the white that was meant for her fitted her well with enough room to grow a bit so it will be OK next winter too.

Excellent! I, too, am working on a UFO quilt as I was inspired by Loralye's post...

I hope to see that in Projects soon. Reminds me that I have one that needs only a few blocks to be (hand) quilted.

Oh Mops, these are just beautiful! They remind me so much of when I was small and Mom knitted a bowling jacket/sweater for my Dad. It was gorgeous! Every week in the winter when they went bowling, my Dad would zip his on and he looked so handsome in it. I never knew if he liked it or wore it because Mom made it but he wore it every week! I love the cables in the orangey one. I learned to knit from Mom but never got very good at it. Thank you so much for the trip down memory lane. I'd forgotten about that sweater till I saw yours!

Thank you. I am glad it brought back happy memories. It did to me too. I remembered my grandma after she had had a stroke. She decided knitting was the therapy for her unwilling right arm. She'd shrug her shoulder to move the arm forward, muttering: Come on, arm, just another stitch, there is a sweater to be knit. And eventually she could knit as beautiful as before and only a little bit slower.

Each one is so beautiful I can't possible pick a favorite. I'm so envious of your knitting skills. I'll send you my size if you run out of models. ☺

Thank you. I did these the last two while watching the winter olympics. As they are child's sizes, about 3-5 yrs, they did not take that long (or I watched a lot).

Gorgeous knitting, Martine.......I just tackled my first cable project and I loved doing it.........was so afraid to try it at first........You have outdone yourself here!!!

Thank you. Cables, you love or hate them. I must say doing three different ones means you must be really alert. I knitted the body till the armholes on double pointed needles so I always saw the front, but I really needed a marker to remember when it was time for the next "needle" or I'd loose count.

I hear you on that, Martine......I need notes to myself on anything so I know where I left off.......I can't imagine the confusion with 3 different cable designs within one piece....
YIKES!!

Beautiful sweaters. My favorite is the blue stripe but that might be because blue is my favorite color. :) My mother crocheted afghans. Made one a week for years until her hands hurt too much. My dad said she didn't even sell them for the cost of the yarn. Mom didn't care. She loved "giving" them away. She was self taught. Only knew one stitch and didn't want to learn any others. Becky

Thank you. My grandmothers were avid knitters, my mother could but hated it. She sewed all our clothes. In my case often from old dresses and coats from aunts and friends.
I learned how to crochet at school, just the basic stitches. And went from there.

Lovely work. The designs/patterns from each area are interesting and historic. Sorry I don't seem to be able to put what I want. It is lovely seeing what I call complicated knitting as I can only do very basic

Thank you.
I did a lot in the 80s and 90s on a rather simple knitting machine and left my needles in a drawer. I started hand knitting again some 10 years ago and hope to knit or crochet all the yarn I've left - but that may take a decade or so. I love the complicated stitches.

Don't you just love left overs? I sometimes to have leftovers as the next project beckons while I am still knitting the current one!
My particular favourite is the mustard coloured one, but they are all lovely.

The self-striping one is a no-brainer, the white one fairly fast (and brought back a lot of memories of the one who tought me to knit properly) and the mustard one is my favourite too, but those cables take more time and attention than the others.
Lately I've been using leftovers to crochet afghans for charity.

Gorgeous sweaters. Bummer on my part that my mother kntted and crocheted beautifully. Too bad I didn't get the gene to do much with either. But I do have memories of her things.

Thank you. My mum did not do much knitting but she did do wonders on her sewing machine.
