sorry I missed seeing the requests earlier for the poem. It is printed a few comments down.
Thank you clintonmiss, i went out to the internet but didn't see this one. You more than made up for missing the request. I love this one. Thanks again
Lovely bonnet, Leaha.
Thank you, I need to make one and I've misplaced the necessary items as I've up ended the sewing space. When we move from here I'm going to have a sewing room, with an attached studio apartment for the other necessary rooms! lol
I should have thought to look on the internet I have found a site that gives poems for the little hat:
www.the-christening-corner.com/.../hankie-bonnet-poems.html
you just copy and paste this in your browser and you should be set to go. Hope this is of some help.
this is lovely. can you please give the poem that goes with it. thank you. truly a treasured gift for baby.
I would gladly post the poem, but I do not have one. I think one of the cuties, clintonmiss22 is suppose to post one here. Check in a lower post. Thanks for looking.
My daughter wore one, that my sister made for her, home from the hospital - 40 years ago! And yes, she snipped the stitched and carried it in her wedding Bible years later. Do you have the poem that goes with this gift?
I'll send the poem to you, or print it here, if you need it.
You found such a pretty hankie. They are sometimes hard to find!
Thank you, I do not have a poem for this and will need one soon. I would be delighted if you would send or print it here.
As for the hankie, I made this also, added the lace and ribbon ties.
Wendymay60 and Leaha, I'm sure there are several versions of this little poem, but this is the one I always use. I saved my daughter's in her baby book, or I probably never would have found it on her wedding day!!
MAGIC LITTLE HANKIE
I’m just a little hankie
As square as square can be
But with a few small stitches
They’ve made a bonnet out of me.
I’ll be worn from the hospital
Or on the christening day
And after that be folded
And carefully tucked away.
When on that future wedding day
So we’ve all been told
The well dressed bride must
Wear something old.
What could be more fitting
Than to find little me
With a few small stitches snipped
A wedding hankie I’ll be.
And if perchance it is a boy
Someday he’ll surely wed
And to his bride he can present the hankie
Once worn on his head.
a treasure heirloom to be, well done! hugs Loralye **
I love that idea and hope they will be cherished and used one day. I fit them to a dolls head, as I haven't any idea if they even fit. Depending on the size of the hanky they can be pretty small. Thanks, Miss Loralye.
What a beautiful tradition and so simple. Well done, love Chris
