I currently use a Juki quilting machine for my work sewing and still have my previous 2 Pfaffs that were my workhorse (they are now backups in case one of mine or a friend's work machine needs to be away for service). Currently use a Janome 350E for embroidery and a 300E sits next to it (I don't really have room in here to be able to use them both or I would!). The Janome Memorycraft 5000 that I started embroidery on sits in a cupboard. I also have an older Janome overlocker. Was given 2 older machines that were being tossed out and have collected a treadle from a recycling group. Have given away my dad's heavy old machine to a friend who uses it now and again for repairing garments. I'd have given away another that I bought for $20 at a garage sale that needed snail dirt etc cleaned out of it and a good service, but my other friend is even more stubborn than I and insisted on buying it from me for what I paid for it and the cost of the service-she loves it! Almost forgot, I gave an older Janome 'turnaround' machine that had an overlocker at one end and sewing machine at the other to a different friend years ago. She probably still uses it. I almost collected 2 machines in matching plastic cases that someone recently put out for our neighbourhood 'hard garbage' collection, but thankfully someone else 'saved' them, LOL.
I am fairly conservative with my machine purchases.
My first major purchase after marrying was a Singer treadle in 1973. Sadly, I had to use it as a trade-in in 1981 for a zig zag capable machine :-(
I still have & use my 1981 Janome SR2000.
On to my 2nd Husqvarna (traded the first one for the 2nd one) it is a
Platinum 770
Brother 780D embroidery only machine
Janome overlocker (640D, I think)
As for helping others with machines.
I have assisted countless newbies to sewing buy their machines.
Advised a couple of charity organisations on buying sewing machines for their mission efforts.
I always advise folk to buy extra bobbins - as you never know how many you will need to keep filled with a matching colour.
Been given machines from deceased estates, which I have then taken for servicing before they have been given to friends or other needy folk.
My service mechanic has taken machines from me and serviced them for free before sending them on their way to mission work.
Don't you just get a buzz out of starting someone else in this creative field??
What fun!
I have-
Babylock Ellageo BLL (Elli)
Janome MC 8000 (the Hulk)
Brother PC420PRW (Dainty Mae, The Hulk's back up)
Brother 1034D (Sarge)
Brother 2340CV (no name yet)
Pfaff 797 serger (Fred is retired until I can afford a major spa treatment)
Singer 25 I believe it's a 1970s Singer reproduction of an older model (The Diva) She's just so pretty.
I gave an old White away to my sister that my grandmother had won off the back of a sewing booklet she received monthly and I traded in a mechanical Husqvarna that I wish I still had. And I need an old singer treadle! Yes, I need it. LOL
11 pairs of scissors, a Janome MC 11000, Babylock Ellageo, Babylock Imagine Serger, Bernina Deco650, 4 Singer Featherweights, and a Singer Treadle Sewing Machine. My favorite is the Janome.
I have four machines: A Bernina 730, a 36 year old Singer Futura II, a White Serger, and a late 40's Singer that is going to be donated to the local high school drama department. I also gave a Janome to my son's girlfriend for Christmas a few years ago. (As for the scissors, too many to count!)
Maureen
Ok, I only have 2 scissors, but I have 4 machines, 2 embroidery machines, 1 sewing machine, all janomes and a serger juki. I should have at least 4 scissors too. hugs, Yoriko
You must go shopping for scissors! Each sewing station **needs** to have its own "set" of scissors. You could color coordinate with covers, scissors and pin cushions...that is my plan. Although I am not sure how much use the covers will get -- LOL
1 Viking diamond for embroidery, 3 older Kenmores for regular sewing, 3 sergers, 1 White treadle and 1 Singer treadle from about 1926. I've bought 5 older sewing machines at yard sales, cleaned and oiled them and given them to young girls learning to sew. Did you know brand new treadle machines are still available for places without electric...or frugalists??
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I got a hand crank Singer in a bentwood case from Allbrands.com--I use it when Hunny and I camp on the mountain, God bless you:)0:):)
Yup! Found this out a few years ago when the local Rotary Club was setting up some islanders with them so they could start their own dressmaking businesses. (No power on the islands.) My sewing group were asked to supply cotton fabrics and threads for the project.
Sewers are good people - there was so much fabric donated plus a few people put in some stretch & polyester that the group had a sales day of the 'unsuitable' fabrics and we raised money. Cannot remember where the money went, but it would have gone to a good cause.
have 7
I purchased ellegante, evolve, 1973 white
given to me 1980's babylock serger, 1980's fancy kenmore, and a commercial straight stitch machine
Singer featherweight was my mothers
never purchased one for someone else but do give my opinion when asked of course. LOL
In the sewing room are 2 Viking 1's that sew and embroider and a Viking Diamond Delux that also sews and embroiders and a Bernina serger and then there is an old Bernina in the closet. Both of our granddaughters have been given Viking sewing machines; one was middle of the road and the other was a quilting model.
Two, a Janome 350E and a Babylock multi-needle. Oh, and two antique sweing machines (pre 1975) and a Brother newish sewing machine. Can't bring myself to get rid of the old ones, 'cause they do certain things well, have pretty stitches, tucking, etc. Have no daughter nor DIL (yet), so not buying for someone else! Newest toy, Bro. Scan and Cut.
I have 4 machines 2 Brother Embroidery machines Innov-IS 750E and Innov-IS 90E, and a Bernina sewing machine and a Bernina overlocker. Love the Brother machines!!!
I have 3 embroidery machines Brother 8580,, supergalaxii2100 and V3. then industrial-owerlock, jednojehelní, buttonholes, sewing on buttons, double needle, sewing and decorative rubber bands on prádlocelkem or 9,,,, complete manufactory, laughs
I have to say I feel a bit out of it. I only have 3 machines. Bernina Deco 340 embroidery machine, Emphisal overlocker (serger) and Bernina 950 sewing machine - oh, forgot I have a very old singer (bought at an auction) and kept in a cupboard!!!!
My last embroidery machine could not be repaired and my last sewing machine I gave to my daughter. Great question.
Oh boy i guess i don't have enough scissors to even right about lol but maybe 10 pair at tops hugs
Six machines, had 7 got rid of one. Bought DIL a starter machine. I have over 30 pairs of scissors so now which one will I need another of?Maybe if I am good as Sue I will try for the dream machine and let go of one or two.
That's a lot of machines! i chuckled when Caroldann said "I only have 3". Well, I only have one sewing/emb. machine- a Janome 11000SE and a serger - a babylock enlighten. Love both of them.
I still have my other serger a Janome 634D, but it is to be sold. I gave my Janome Memory 7 (loved this machine and only found out when I went to the launch of the Janome 12000 that it was the first computerized sewing machine - a real workhorse and still going strong after 30+ yrs.) to my DIL when I got the Janome 11000SE. Silly, but sometimes I stil miss it. I'm thinking of getting the Babylock Ellissimo Gold 2 - but this time I keep my Janome.
I have purchased a good used Brother sewing machine for my GD - it's about 30 yrs. old and runs like a dream.
.
I forgot about the two machines I had gotten for my girls years ago. I traded somethng else for one for one of my daughters and got the other one one at a pawn shop.
i missed the thread about scissors! but, anyway, i think there r 2 many to count! lol. there are at least 2 pair in every room and in my sewing building....i just don't know! but as to sewing machines.....my favorite is my pennywinkle long arm with 14 ft frame, then i have 4 sewing machines in the house....1 is my gmoms singer in a cabinet,2 is an antique singer in a sm cabinet,a janome and a new home.my oldest daughter just recently broke 2 of my older machines, kenmores,,,and i have bought both my daughters machines and my great neice a machine. and the newest is a brother pe 700 emb machine that is a year old........plus my own set of hands!!!!! hahahahahahahaha, sincerely, lynne
also, sometime about 10 years ago i donated a sewing machine to a church mission to africa.
Don't get me started on machines. I'm currently using a used Deco 330 and love it. Paid a lot of money for a new one and would like to pitch it out. One day I'll write a book. Never bought one for anybody but me. Wouldn't think of doing that. Not after my problems. Never even recommend one, but would sure tell you what NOT to buy.
I have 2 embroidery machines ; my first a Brother PE300S, and a Brother770. I have 5 sewing machines, all older models and an old treadle (3 of the machines were my mothers and the treadle was my aunt's ) . I have 2 sergers, both Singers...a 3 thread and a 4 thread, and I have a felting machine. One day I would like to update a couple, and I would love a quilting machine but the prices of what I like are a out of reach. What I have, have all served me well though, so I really can't complain.
Hugs, Nadyne
Am I allowed to list all my garden and workshop tools?
Dennis we know you have at least 1 embroidery machine - come on - don't be shy............
Dennis, That's another site. You start it. But I do downgrade my oldest, dullest scissors to the yard, with good effect.
I have a Simplicity quilt machine,a Simplicity regular sewer, and a Simplicity serger. I also have a 1600 Janome quilt machine,a 9000 janome and a 300e janome. I have a light weight Singer that was made in the UK before the second world war that was given to me by my only sister(who has since past away). My son gave me an old pedal machine that uses the long bobbin and it works fine.As you can see I am a sewing addict. I am 86 years old and my first love is quilting. But my problem is that no one sews in my family,no children, grandchildren or great grandchildren. Maybe before God calls me home I will find someone to leave them to that will love the sewing we all on cuties do.
That's sad. Maybe it would be good to find out which Cutie lives nearest to you, just in case they'd otherwise end up being dumped :)
I have a Babylock serger, a Babylock Ellageo Plus sewing/embroidery machine, a Simplicity embroidery machine and a Singer sewing machine. I have given away a one sewing machine.
Ok let me see my 1st one about 40 years ago a Kenmoore, cant get rid of it,a small portable elna, an emblisher, an overlocker, two Brother emb, Galaxie 2100 and Innovis 750E a Elna quilting queen, and as we are relocating soon I have to sell them all not looking forward to getting rid of them but am looking forward to relocating

Gosh, I can't believe the number of machines so many of you have. I only have 3. A Janome Horizon 12000, emb, sewing and quilting machine. A Janome 3160 QDC sewing machine and a Janome serger. Yep, I'm also a Janome gal. I did buy a Brother sewing machine for my 12 yr old gd. Love reading about all the different machines everyone has. Hugs...Carol
Glad you have asked this question. I have been meanig to ask it myself for some time. I have 2 Embroidery Machines. Janome 11000 updated to the 11000SE & Brother Innovis 1200.1 normal sewing machine, Janome 3500. 2 overlockers, Brother 4 thread with differential feed & Janome 3 thread given to me by my daughter. And a Janome Embelishment Machine which came with the 11000. And I have a small black Singer Machine which comes in a case like a Doctors Case. and also a Antique Machine (Wertheim) (c, 1890)which was given to me when we purchased our 1st home 51 years ago. I have owned lots of other machines in the past and have either sold, traded them in on new ones or given them away. Please tell us what and how many you have. Shirley
I currently have 2, one singer Futura CE-150 and a Bernina artista 635 and I really don't like either one. I traded a singer Futura SES2000 in on the Bernina and I wish I still had it. The singer Futura SES2000 Sewed better and did better embroidery than the Bernina If you can believe that. That is just my opinion. I have also given away 3 machines in my life. Hugs Virdean
I have four.
Brother Emb 780D, Brother Emb/Sew 6000D, Babylock Sew BLQC, and an OLD Bicor - all metal that does simple sewing.
Right machines owned 2 embroidery machines. One is a Brother Galaxie 3000 and the other is a Brother PR650. I also have a Bernina minimatic that I have had for many many years and is still used regularly. I also have a very small Elna which is great for carrying about. There is a overlock that needs a good service. I have lost count for the number of machines bought for others and I also have passed machines on to others but again cannot remember. Right what machines do you have?
I have all Husqvarna Viking. a 6020 model-1972-- -Designer I--Se-- and a Rudy
My Rudy gets used the most- has almost 600 hrs. About 1/2 and 1/2 between sewing and embroidering. We have a wonderful dealer that is close by.
I have 5
2 Janome's 10001 & 11000 embroidery / sewing machines
2 Singer's-one I only use for my Jammer bags the other one only has straight stitch also was the first machine I every owned. Then my serger - Elna. One day hope to upgrade my 11000 to the SE. Happy Stitching Everyone
I have a Janome 11000SE, Janome 300E, Janome 6600P Janome 9000. Also a Janome embellisher and a Singer overlocker that does coverstitch as well. Would really love the Janome 15000 and a lighter machine to take to classes. Usually take the 9000 or 6600P(love this machine) but both heavy to cart around.I suppose you could say I am a " Janome girl" . LOL. Sewing and embroidery are my one passion. Love them all. Lynx
I have a Bernina 440QEE, a New Home 7000, a Brother CS600i, a New Home MyLock 234 serger (which is pretty worthless to me. It it too hard to keep the tension balanced.)
I have given away 3 machines and am about to donate the New Home to my DIL to sell in her yard sale next month.
I have to tell you my machines keep breeding!
As for buying for others, I went to buy one for a friend who is 85 and low and behold I came home with two I was that impressed!
I have 1 multi-needle embroidery machine, 2 sewing and embroidery machines and a serger. All are Babylock machines. Yes, once I test stitched my first Babylock machine I was hooked on them. I have given away 2 machines and donated 2 machines.
2 Old singer full size, 3 singer featherweights (metal ones), Viking with cams, Bernina 1130, 180 E, 730 E, 1100 serger.
SQ
I have a Janome 11000SE, a Janome Embellishing machine and a Brother overlocker. I am looking at the new Janome 15000 and wondering if I have been good enough..................
Thanks for your votes of confidence! It was Scottie who was egging me on to get the new machine because she wanted mine. (She bought my Janome MC5700 when I upgraded last time.)
I did give away my basic sewing machine last year.
You know Dennis -- she CAN have both. One is for embroidery the other is a craft thing...lol
You'lll love the 15000! I was to the launch of both the 12000 and then the 15000! I didn't find the 12000 that much better than the 11000, but now the 15000 is great!
Sue, Wonder no more. Look who else owns machines. It's not about being good, only willing! Go get it! (No donation, though.)
This question will be another funny read, like the scissor question was. LOL. I have a Singer xl6000. A Brother 5000, a Brother 400, a Singer heritage black machine. I think that's all (currently)? But, I have purchased several others... bought my daughter in law a Singer xl6000. Bought a few other Singer 5000's and 6000's til my husband talked me out of collecting them when they became obsolete. I had also owned a serger, Evolve, but sold it. It was too difficult for me. Not as much fun as embroidery. Not too bad of a collection, is it? :) :) :)Flowers!
Congratulations on your first 1000 flowers and here is one towards your next milestone
Thanks for the Congrats!! I can't believe I am at 1000+ flowers! Came in to read about everybodys sewing machine collections LOL. and always pass out flowers to everybody as I read their posts, even if I don't make a comment. Thanks to all that moved me over the 1000 flower garden!!!
I currently have 5 machines:
A Bernina 1300 MDC serger
A 20 year old White basic machine
A Babylock Quest Plus sewing and quilting machine
A Singer Futura 250 (temperamental) sewing and embroidery machine
A Babylock Esante sewing and embroidery machine
I have only given two machines.
Bless you for asking another fun question
My machines are gregarius animals, too many I guess.
I have and use 3 machines, a Janome MC 11000 SE, (I use for embroidery, Quilting and sewing too), a Gritzner serger and an older Carina machin (I use for sewing jeans, leather...)
The Janome I like the most.
I just love to look at machines.
I have heard all good things about Janomes.
Thanks for sharing and God bless you:):):)
