I know what you mean about not being able to go into a store at will to purchase sewing supplies. The closest store to me is Wal-Mart and it is 20 miles away; thus a 40 mile trip. The best places to shop are an hour away from me. It could be worse. LOL Have a great day shopping.
Oh, Shirley! This is what I call a two-for. You "need" something and can't find it near so you have to go to the big city where there are hours or days worth of sewing/embroidery related stores (and some others thrown in just to balance the score) where you can shop and find some really good deals that you just couldn't pass up, right? So, you get what you need AND some things that you want ~ a two-for!
Not forgetting the 'Gofor.' I class myself as a 'Gofor' and probably most men would consider themselves the same. The origin of this title comes from instructions received from the 'other half' requiring one to go for this and go for that. It's the conditioning of the oppressed man!
Shirley. I agree with Meg. DONT buy Q&A. This was my first lots of threads. I bought every color and am sorry i did. I now use it for bobbin thread. Good luck if you get to Melb. :)
Thanks for the advice. have never heard of Q&A Perhaps it has not reached Tassie yet. LOL Shirley
Shirley PLEASE just don't get desperate enough to buy Q&A thread, or a lesser brand of black/white threads cause if you do you won't need scissors at all, they break all on their own.
I buy my large spools of Madeira thread from Allstitch Machine Embroidery Supplies, even with postage to Aus it is cheaper than I can buy here in NSW, that is WHEN I can find them.
I usually buy two of each main colour, red, black and 3 shades of white, in Classic Rayon and Polyneon and they last me quite a while.
I have dealt with many other online stores but Allstitch and Shoppers Rule are the two I find best for international shipping rates.
Hope this helps, hugs n roses, Meg
Thanks Meg I will check it out. But then I will not have the excuse to visit my friend in Melbourne. Shirley
The thought of being able to walk into a shop and buy such items makes me green with envy. Perhaps I should visit Melbourne as well!
I am sure you would be welcome over here Sue. Just let us know when you are coming. Shirley
Sue, you should pop over for a visit here -- I have several major fabric/craft shops and too many to count smaller fabric shops within a thirty minute drive from my home. I could spend a week and still not have time to visit them all -- so plan to bring some money and stay for a while.
Bring Dennis -- he can help push the carts! LOL
I haven't got any money and anyway, I've got enough to deal with being married to Ann, let alone receiving directions from another one...................
I blame that Rescuer lady for this!! Everyone was bumbling along perfectly happy with their lot and suddenly everyone wants more scissors. Shirley..............round up all the scissors that you said you were not going to try to round up................and I'm sure you will find what you need. Don't allow yourself to be led astray and fall into the Rescuer lady's trap! As for you, Mrs.P., stop encouraging Shirley.
Don't be to harsh on the Rescuer lady. She means well. No I have not got the scissors in the lot I was not going to round up. They are sitting on my sewing table. Had them sharpened last year and they are now STUFFED I really need a new pair. I don't need any one to encourage me either, I can do that quite well all by myself. he he he Shirley
Dennis, if you can, picture cheerleader pompoms in my hands as I cheer "More scissors, more scissors, let's go shopping for more (you will need to add a sing-song voice and extra time on the last "more") scissors!"
I am a wonderful influence on the world wide shopping for all things needed in the sewing/embroidery industry....
I have restrained my young son and told him I would not be asking about the fabric stashes of all Cuties...oh the fabric we would need to buy!
LOL
Yes................I have made great endeavours to conjure up that mental picture of you with pompoms, jumping up and down in your Ra-Ra skirt and singing "More scissors, more scissors, let's go shopping for morrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre scissors!"
I did post a lot more in the above comment but for some reason the full text has not appeared....................anyway, I'm off to Google to find a more appropriate image.
Sorry about that Shirley, well come on over to the mainland! After all Melbourne is the fashion capital of Australia and I'm sure you'll find lots of things you need in all the fabric shops in town. Hope you find what you are after soon. If not there is always the internet and they can post things to you. Love Chris
Thanks Chris. I may have to visit my friend over there. I notice Dennis is blaming you for encouraging me. LOL Love Shirley
