You lucky lady!
I have been looking for one just like that! My grandmother had one and I have no idea what ever happened to it. I learned to sew on one like this, and want one to teach my granddaughters to sew on one like this as well.
Maybe I'll get lucky and fins one some time soon.
Hugs
Diane
My memories are like the others...I learned too on a machine just like this one that my Mom had. Would sit for hours just sewing row after row on old sheets, and I am still in love just like way back then, as a little girl, with our love of sewing. Have no idea where that machine went. Wonderful memories...
I used to sew on my grandmothers like that one. My aunt has it now. I know you are thrilled to have it back!!! Gosh, sure does bring back memories!!!
Glad to know it is back in the family where it belongs. My mum did have one (could have been her mum's I don't recall) but don't know what ever happened to it nor did she. My dad may have done something with it when they split up....anyway my hubby got me one much the same as my mother's so it's a treasure. I did trace it back through the Singer website & it's over 100 years old.
I found mine in Belgium in a motor garage. It is like new and works great. It is also in my dining room and is admired by all my visitors.
What an incredible story! I couldn't imagine having such an awful neighbour to have waltzed in & taken the machine.. then bestowed it on another of her family members. Great that you had the energy to sleuth this out & now have it back!
yes mine looked the same ,my Grammie taught me on it .I put in my first zipper in my Dads coat on this baby at 8 years old .I was his suck so i remember that well :):)hugs thanks for the memories :):)carolyn
I have a machine just like yours that belonged to my grandmother also.
I taught sewing for the Singer company quite a few years ago ,so she
had my parents bring it to me when she passed. It still has some notion items in the drawers and attatchments.. Penny
Super! What good people to let it finally go home, where it belongs.
From my MIL, I have a White brand table, it was not for a treadle machine, but the iron legwork and the drawers are the same. I need to get it refinished someday.
Jo
I am happy you found it .I wish I could find my mom's old machine I learned on but we were in a tornado and I guess it was blown away or some one got it out of the ruble.

I also learned to sew on a machine that looked very much like this one. Neither my mother or grandmother were sewers but we had an elderly neighbor lady who taught me to sew. All of my early projects were made from the pretty flour sacks that she provided for me. This picture brought back some wonderful memories of that time long ago.
One the day my Granny passed March 17th, 1974 the neighbor came over and took it out of the house. She gave it to one of her kids. It was then given to her son who gave it to his daughter (whew lots of people). I spoke with the daughter (Kelsey) a few weeks ago who told me how she thought it was her great grandmothers machine. She also informed me that it was at her mothers house in Texas and she gave me the address and I went there last week and picked it up. It has some rust on it, a broken drawer but other than that. I is in GREAT shape and home where it belongs. My Mother cried when she saw it!
Wow, how did you convince Kelsey's mother that the machine really belonged to your Granny?
I told her the whole story and gave her names and numbers to call and verify the information. She did, and I received a call telling me to come get Granny's machine.
A blessing for you a sad story for her but it is good for the machine to be "home" where it means more then a sewing machine to you.
Thankfully back where it belongs. How did the neighbour think she had the right to take it in the first place!
I have my Grandmother's treadle machine. It is not a Singer. The belt was missing. I have a belt that my daughter bought and gave me. I need to put it on. It looks like everything works. It has a lot of attachments and the original instruction book. My aunt lived at home and nothing was changed from when my Grandmother died. When I had to put her in a nursing home, I got the sewing machine. Glad that you found the machine.
I'm glad you found this wonderful machine and hope to get it operating procedure.
I have similar machine and last pachwork (it was so thick) I made with old mashine.
I learnt on a Singer with a handle, but at school where I had sewing lessons, (I made a wraparound apron!) they had treadle machines. Now my local pub has tables made from treadles with the machine removed. Such lovely memories it brings back.
It is beautiful. How on earth can something so big go missing? LOL.
I learned to sew at my Nanna's knee in Adelaide on a very similar machine to this one back in the 1950's. I would have only been about 7 or 8! Brings back memories.
By the way, WHERE DID YOU FIND IT? Love Chris
my mum had one similar no bells or whistles but sewed like a dream....soozie
My grandma had one too, looks the style of hers.Where did you locate it? I'm curious to know.
