Deep Gloom:

Dave was kicked out of the Great British Sewing Bee competition, last night! The men are done for...........that's it, I've thrown all my bricks out of the pram and I'm not watching any more! lol

Well, I did watch it, even though I knew the result. Sad about Dave, I liked him a lot as he knew his limitations. (A wise man indeed!) He was the weakest contestant this week, though.
I was appalled to see cashmere fabric butchered to make a coat that no-one would ever wear, the waste all through the programme is dreadful. Some of the contestants shouldn't be allowed to have scissors.
I'm really not keen on how the concept of the series is changing. There was always too much dressmaking and not enough creative sewing, but the latter has now completely disappeared.

Another wise man!

One of these days, Mrs Dewsbury........................one of these days!

I quite agree about the waste. That costume would have been treated like gold in the mend-and-make-do era they were referring to and some really nice things would have been made of it.
Can't believe they are the top sewers in the UK, they seemed to have been picked blindfolded.

Dennis, I have to admit the best tailors are usually of the male species, dressmakers mostly female. Too bad about Dave.

dennis999 by dennis999 27 Mar 2014

Thank you, Mrs. M. I do agree with you regarding the 'make do and mend' era and the standard of those participating in this series (not that I am claiming ANY talent myself). We keep trying to get Mrs. D'y to enrol but she's having none of it!!

I'd love to see her in the next series.

I had not commented on this sad news earlier as I knew Sue hadnot seen the episode yet. You have saved her an hour of her time Dennis. It is sad as Dave brought something to the programme and admitted regularly that he was making something he had not done before and then would make it well. Dennis you have applied to take part next year haven't you?

I'm not sure that Sue viewed my post as saving her an hour of her time but thank you Caroline for at least trying to get me off the hook gently. I liked Dave..........he came across as my sort of bloke. In answer to your question, NO I have not applied on the grounds of self-recognition that I am totally useless in such matters. lol

Karen, you haven't found those scissors yet? I'll bet they're with my thumb ring that came off yesterday cause it was so cold. Ticks me off, but time. Love all my rings.

So this means you have lots of time now to help me look for my missing scissors. Or you can go scissor shopping.

You have rejected all my proposals of help.................so I'm not sure that you are deserving of new scissors.

I seem to recall the men on the last Great British Sewing Bee also got the boot. Maybe if they had the proper scissors they would of done a better job?

LOL...that is probably true!

dennis999 by dennis999 26 Mar 2014

There appears to be a bit of a theme running here............namely, the obsession you girls have with scissors. It's a conspiracy I tell you............................

I was also sorry to see Dave go, I thought he was very good with what he did. Are they really the top sewers in the UK ? The elderly lady in the last series was, Ann she was called, but this time round, I'm not really impressed. What I couldn't take my eyes off last night, was the blouse the girl was wearing, she said once that she doesn't use a pattern,
If she made that blouse, she didn't do a very good job on it!
It had so many puckers in it, it was unbelievable. I also think there is a lot of waste, not a good advert for the make do and mend brigade !! But I like the programme anyway!
