I have a Brother PR 1000 Entrepreneur Pro which is a ten needle machine. This is my first machine and I purchased it at a time when Brother were offering a deal where they supplied the full range of their hoops plus the wide baseball cap, sleeve/trouser leg attachments and wide table extension. Although I have not had the need to use all of the hoops, I have had excellent results with the other attachments.
Although it is a large machine, personally I don't think it requires that much of a greater work area than many of the single needle machines. The one thing I would say though is that it is a heavy unit and despite Brothers claims, you need to consider this factor should you have to return the machine yourself for servicing or repair. I certainly would not recommend the machine being returned by courier both from the point of view of cost and potential damage.
I was fortunate that my dealer delivered and set up my machine and then spent half a day with me, showing me the basics of operation. I also have the benefit of the dealer having its own mobile service engineers.
Apart from the vast extent of applications that the machine is capable of undertaking, I like the facility of being able to pre-load up to ten thread colours but then I'm not entirely convinced that there is any significant saving in overall time to complete any particular design.
I know that many of these machines (including the PR600; PR620 and PR650) are used by small businesses. My machine is used purely for personal needs (i.e. what my wife tells me to produce!).
Finally, I would just say that I am no expert (as many here are) but I have been very pleased with the quality of the machined designs.
Thanks for all the info. I am going to have to really think things through - good thing I'm in no hurry as my single needle machine works great, but I am wanting something more. Thanks.
I have the brother PR600, and she is my prized possession lol..
I purchased her purely for the hoop size and no other capabilities,
to be honest I do all my designs on pc and transfer them other via usb,
as I like to keep a file of the designs I produce, so I could not even tell you which designs or capabilities are pre loaded on my machine xx
Big hugs from London - Maria xx
I have a Brother PR650. I love it and we have fun together but it is fun for me and not commercial sewing that I do. I like the fact that it sews out large designs. It takes up a lot of space and I have to admit is a little terrifying on occasions but fun.
Everyone so far seems to really love their multi needle. Always good to have fun in the process. lol
I have had a Babylock 6 needle machine since 2008 and I love it. I do not have a business but have put about 20 million stitches on it. Yes, I would buy it again and have not regretted spending the money since day one. But I admit, I would love to buy a Babylock 10 needle machine and still keep my 6 needle. I don't part with my Babylock machines easily. I have found Babylock machines to be user friendly, very sturdy, seldom break down and easily cleaned. Test stitch as many brands as you can before purchasing a machine and be sure the technician who will be working on the machine is familiar with the machine.
I total agree. I only have a 1 needle babylock, but my friend has the 6-needle. I think it sews beautiful and big. It is the best for sweatshirts and caps. she is 80 years old and does very good with it. she also have a small one to use if she is only doing small stuff or take to retreat. It holds up very good and she doesn't have to have it repaired that often. Babylock are the best, but our dealer is outstanding.
Thanks for the comments - it all helps. I have time to think about it as it is a toss up between a particular single needle and a multi needle.
I have had my eye on a particular babylock single needle - but someone put the idea of a multi needle into my head and now I'm in a real quandry.
Hi, I have a 10 needle brother 1000. I do love it and would buy it all over again. I don't think I use it to its full potential but that's because I have been ill for the past year ... I fully intend to make it sing and dance now I am feeling well. Lol. Suelyn
Thank you I just need a little time to get down to it, it's amazing what's in my head I just need to engage brain.
Thanks - that's one of the things I was concerned about - using it fully.
