I DID IT. Yep i made my first totaly solo motor home holiday and no problems at all.

I did find out what my tiny dog is crossed with. its a mountain goat and a fish. On the afternoon i arrived at my destination and after i had pitched ok i took the two dogs onto the beach, That did it. he was off at a gallop across the sand and into the water, then he found the rocks and was jumping from one to the other and haveing a great time. After about half an hour he turned into a super hero and began rescuing rocks that had been trapped in the sand and were in imminent danger of being drowned by the incoming tide. the beach was coverd with similar pebbles but they were all above the water line so only those actually in the sea had to bew rescued, they were bought up the beach and dropped at my feet and off he raced again to recue another one.
We went onto the beach for a walk at least three times a day and he became just like a very naughty child and ignored my command of walk nice or come here. My whistles fell on deaf ears as his concentration was fully on these poor stones. Each time we came back i had to grab him and hold him as he screamed and cried as if being tortured as i held onto him to stop him running away. if i put him on the lead he would twist and turn and still cry his head off as i dragged him back up the sand dunes and back to the van to get dried off. Yesterday i let him go and play and he came back this time with a dog fish hanging fromhis mouth, He was so proud of his find that before i could stop him he decided to eat it there and then. i wouldn't have minded so much except that the dog fish must have been dead for a few days. again i had to put him on lead to drag him away from it because no matter how many times i told him to leave it he refused.
I had intended to come home on Tuesday but as i was haveing a nice restfull time i decided to stay on till today.
It was a four hour journey home traveling just 120 miles which would not have taken that much time if a motorway was available but this was travleing through Wales and its small narrow twisting lanes that go up and down small mountains the 14% climb i managed by dropping into second gear for the last 500 yards but the 10% climb had me crawling along in first from halfway up I didn't mind too much except for the traffic behind me but at least going so slow gave me chance to watch the redkites gliding around the top of the hill.
We ( the dogs and I ) arrived home at just on 1.00pm and i had a nice hot shower and crawled into bed to rest my back The dogs have also gone to bed for most of the afternoon and evening. Midge, the tiny one is sulking but the old lady is only too happy to be back and not forced to go walks all the time.
I can't wait till the 17th when i am away again for a few days. Now i know i can do it I will be on the raod as much as i can be as long as i can afford the high price of the fuel. Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes
annie, home in the Uk for now

What a lovely adventure you have had, Annie. I am very pleased for you and thank you for your amusing post. I think that it is something about the sea air that makes dogs behave as they do, and there is nothing wrong with that. Our two behave just the same.

What a wonderful adventure! I hope you brought some of the rescues back so that tiny doggie doesn't think his hard work went unnoticed.

Good for you! It's really not that bad going solo in a motor home once you know how everything goes. I took mine and my BFF 600 miles to Florida 3 years ago to spend a week. She is very prissy and pretty "worthless". (her words not mine) but I handled everything alright except for knocking one the hubcaps off. LOL

I am so glad it was a success. If you continue you will have a pathway made from rocks and always remember where and how it came about. So funny I can just see it.
