Reading these posts has exhausted me! I am in awe of your stamina.
My mornings are always taken up with dog walking and household tasks. If nothing else is pressing I find sewing time after lunch. About 3 hours is my limit, but like Sarah, I try to stop before things go wrong! In the evening I stick to hand embroidery or knitting, usually whilst watching TV and playing Scrabble. That is unless we need to rehearse for a gig or festival.
Oh my gosh-Right up till about a year ago-I would to start sewing at 8:30-9:00 every morning-after everyone was of to school/work for the day and go straight through till 10-11:00 at night. Not non-stop because of course there were times I would have to answer the phone/door for customers, drop off and pick up daughter from school-break to visit a bit with hubby when he came home from work-stop to fix dinner- my days were long, my Janome machines sure did get their workouts-I had my own home based business doing hemming, alterations to ready made clothing, zipper repair/replacement and odds and ends sewing projects for customers. I loved what I did for the 10 yrs. I did it, but when my grandson was born I decided I didn't want to divide my time between being with him and being stuck at my sewing all day-the love was really starting to fade-so I closed my business and I am so glad I did-I was actually starting to have severe shoulder/back and arm pain from sitting at the machine for so long. Now I can go for 1 week at a time without touching my machines-guess I just got burnt out :( ~linda~
we all need to take breaks to renew ourselves & I am happy that you were able to do just that Linda. ~hugs~
oohh good question, I tend to spend two days a week just for embroidery, so my aim is to get all done in them two days, I try to run my machines while hubby at work and children at school , but often at the same time as a typical mum the washing machine is going ect.. oh and my kettle is always on :-) I then tend to break when they are home for dinner, its not un common for me to still be going till two in the morning :-)
I stop when my body starts aching....but never sew after dark...have trouble getting the colours right
I think that is a good idea & normally I stop @ dinner time but sometimes I just have to finish it.
I stop before I start making silly mistakes. I usually sew until mid afternoon. I never sew in the evening - that is DH time :)
I agree with you Sarah. When dh is home I but sleeping I will sew but not when he is up for the day or evening. I enjoy the time we get to spend with each other. ~hugs~
Like you, I tend to make mistakes after 5 PM. I am in my sewing room most of the day tho. I do my daily chores when I wake up. Then.....hold yer horses! Suzanne
I sew, embroider or crochet until I become dangerous...LOL. Then I quite for the day.
Muffy :)
I set a goal every time I sew. Sometimes I finish all I want to do. But most of the time my machine and I tire before we have finished the list. But that's OK. I don't have a business and there is always tomorrow.
But when tomorrow comes other things may get in the way & then it sits until you have more time to do it or you tire of it. That is the ultimate question. Should I finish it today or put it aside?
How long I sew varies, but I love what one Cutie taught me about how to finish the day. Go ahead and select the next design, threads and fabric so that the next day, I can hoop and go! On the way out of the room, I sack up the trash and toss it down the stairwell to put in the big trash can, so I start fresh!
well now that is a great idea!!!!! I did manage to hoop my next project which I was to sew out today but hubby came home so away we went. Maybe Monday it will get done lol
When I start to make mistakes it is time to stop. well thank you ladies that is easy enough to remember, so far so good no mistakes & yes I did decide to finish what I started today complete with the binding & yes my back is sore lol but I am happy to have it done. Now I can move on to another lol ~hugs & **~
I agree with Brenda, When I start making mistakes, I stop for the day! Or if one of the machines starts to break threads continually, I figure It needs a rest also! Hugs, Judy
i have sewn all night until 8am when my gdaughter got married. i had so many unfinshed projects for the wedding that i could not stop. also another time on a deadline for some shirts i kept having to pull out threads and it took me until about 5am. in general i schedule 3 days a month that i sew with a group. we sew from 9 or 10 am until 3 or 4 pm.AND YES,i am exhausted each day and many parts of my body hurt. But!!! I love it,sincerely, lynne
