My embroidery club teacher had us hoop up with the thicker water soluble stabiliser, then position the towel on top. We were told to put a TINY bit of spit on the towel and press it onto the stabiliser. Works a treat. Then do the same with the lightweight WSS for the topper.
Then do a basting stitch around the hoop. Now you are ready to embroider.
All my embroidery on towels is done this way and they look great.
Word of warning - too much spit makes a hole in the stabiliser.

If you have a fix stitch option on your machine use it.Just hoop whatever stablizer you use ,pin your towel in place in the hoop ,have your design ready to be used then press fix which tacks a square around the design that will be embroidered .Don't forget to use topping .I use this function on nearly everything I embroider .It has one advantage that you see immediately if the design is in the right place once the tacking is done

HI LUCY - I SPRAY THE STABILIZER WITH A LITTLE ADHESIVE SPRAY. LAY THE TOWEL ON TOP WIT WSS AND STITCH. PLEASE DO NOT HOOP TOWELS AS IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO YOUR HOOPS AND PROBABLY YOUR HANDS. SARAH

Anything that thick will stretch your hoop out of shape. Better to follow the suggestions below. Hugs. Nan

I PERSONALLY DON'T USE STICKY STABILIZER ON TOWELS, BECAUSE I TRIED IT ONE TIME AND IT PULLED A LOT OF THE LOOPS OUT OF THE BACK OF TOWEL AND CAUSED A RUN. I JUST HOOP TEAR AWAY AND PIN THE TOWEL TO IT WITH WATER SOLUBLE ON TOP.

SAME HERE.

THAT'S HOW I DO IT TOO.

I DON'T ALWAYS PIN, BUT SOMETIMES USE A BASTING STITCH DESIGN IN A GOOD VISIBLE COLOR TO KEEP THE TOWEL IN PLACE, AND REMOVE THE BASTING STITCH AFTER I FINISHED THE EMBROIDERY.

This alternative method does make a lot of sense. Perhaps I should have added to my earlier post, the need to test a piece of the towel before using the sticky stabilizer.

Why are you using sticky stabelizer? I never have used it no matter how thick the project or towel is. Just hoop it and float you WSS on top and your tear away on the bottom and just embroidery on it. I have always done it this way with no problem. You can use tear away or wash away whichever you prefer. Sticky stabelizer is not one thing I have ever used in my years of enbroidery and never will. Good luck and hope everything turn out alright. I DO WHAT DENNIS SAYS TOO. I DON'T HOOP ANYTHING - ESPECIALLY TOWELS.

I put stabilizer in the hoop and do what dennis wrote. Broke the hoop one time trying to hoop the towel. Know better now. Hoops aren't cheap.

Hi Lucy. I am sure that other Cuties will be along soon but I would say:

1. Hoop the Sticky Stabilizer.

2. Align towel onto sticky stabilizer.

3. Pin or clip washaway onto towel covering the design area.

This is the ONLY way I embroider towels-----they do NOT hoop without issues---float the washaway on top---or SPIT it!!!!!!!!!!! I ALWAYS sit at the machine and watch EVERY SINGLE STITCH----if I get up----of course the machine knows it and MESSES UP---good luck!!! And God bless you!!
