Oh these are so beautiful! These warm my heart! What a wonderful way to dress up the memory care room. My Mother was also in a memory care unit and we did things to make it more homey for her too. Your thoughtfullness will always be remembered by the residents, employees, and families of all who saw them. You are a very kind person. HUGS to you! Suzanna
Jan, these are so special. You have done so well on all these items, and giving all of us, another idea for banners. When my sister first went into a home,I was the one that brought her. I came home so depressed, but she was happy. She was afraid to live alone anymore, confused with her meds,That's what made me feel better about it.Your mom may be happy there too. Some don't like change, while other times, change is good.It is sad for them to leave their homes and way of life, but as especially us older ones have come to realize, life is always changing.Another chapter,in the book of our lives, so to speak. My mom suffered with dementia. Not long before her death,I was praying out loud, over her. Before I finished, she surprised me by saying"Father,-------------" I leaned in to try to understand,to hear what she prayed.I never knew what she had said....There is a song George Jones sang, goes "If I could only hear,my mother pray again", well I got to hear mine pray again. Thanks for the memories.-Toogie
If you want to make a container, would it be possible to make a wall hanging with pockets, so cards could be placed in it or loving notes from family to them, tissues, or little special things. Visible is better than covered. :) Leaha
I'm thinking of making some ITH bowls for them..... Out of coordinating fabrics. Do any of you have any ideas for the designs?
Maybe more like a container.... with a lid that can come on and off...
Not trying to but in, but from my experience...if it has a lid on it they will loose something inside it and have issues with this; ie, someone stole the item or it was thrown away or they will hide it from themselves and forget where they put it. Sorry to rain on your idea, Leaha
How very special!! I'm sure this means a lot to your mom. Any personalization in a nursing home is really nice. They can be so drab and institutional. Now her room is personalized, and it will help her find her room too. Yup, this is my room. This is my name! :) Love it!
These are so cheery. I've been in some dreary nursing home rooms - almost all of them need this kind of personal touch. I never make anything for our friend Wendell that I don't "ruin" it by putting his fairly large on it. Otherwise, nice things get the five finger lift to someone else's home. He's a University of Alabama fan, so one Halloween he wanted a "football" shirt in Auburn colors - got a big laugh at the Halloween party.
What a fantastic idea and your photos look lovely.
Loved the idea.
Yvonne
Thanks. The only place I could hang them at home was on the china cabinet with all my depression glass. It kind of lit them up!
beautiful work bright colors make the room more homey great job.Maria
You are such a sweet and caring person to do this not only for your mom, but her roommate, too. It truly is better to give than to receive. Love all of it!
Hi, I am sure they love the things you made for them. It is beautiful. And I'm sure Alzheimer's disease does not affect their appreciation of beauty. How lucky your mom is to have a daughter like you.
I like the idea in the comment from chefin - a little pen and pencil holder, or a cosmetic bag! (for soap and stuff.) What about an old fashioned bag to put your washing in? Or a pillow to hide your pajamas in?
Well done!
Anneliese
you are a great daughter!!!!!!
you can make her a little bag like this one.
its very easy you can see it on youtube.
hugs micheline
My mom told me "Thank you for doing things for others" made me cry. Her roommate took her little blue pillow with the bee down the hall to show people.... and she was smiling! I think I will be making lots of things and mailing in pairs! What should I make next? My goodness you all make me feel great! Thank YOU!
Wowwwwww, die sehn alle sehr gut aus, eine sehr gute sache um die beide Dammen es ein bisschen Fröhlicher zu machen, sehr gut gemacht
I love it! It is so bright and cheery!
Mom loves red, so I used lots of red on hers. I asked Mom what color she thought her roommate might like and she told me she had pink slippers. So, I used lots of pink for hers. Too much fun!
You did an excellent work. How good is that we remember and take care of our parents!
I've had a terrible time knowing she is no longer in her own home. This made me feel better.
a wonderful thing for you to do wish I had embroidered when My mom was alive she would have loved that.
thanks for sharing.
Hug Lenamae
I'm sure you did lots of other things to show her how much you loved her, Lenamae :-)
A terrific way to brighten their room! You did a lovely job on everything Jan. ~hugs~
Nice job...everything is lovely and will surely cheer up their days!
Love them! You have done a great job for your Mom and her roommate.
Hugs, Lidia
How lovely, gifts from the heart.
It was fun going through all my fabrics to create a work of heart! Aren't we glad we can sew!
The room will look so nice with these!
Oh Mops the room was soooo plain it was too depressing. It's amazing how much colorful fabrics can do!
Super nice Jan! They are so homey and welcoming! You are the perfect daughter to do this for Mom and her roommate, bless your heart! You have made two special ladies a treasure they can be happy about.
Beautiful Jan and what a wonderful way to brighten up their room. God bless you for doing it for your Mum and her room-mate. Love Chris
It felt so GOOD doing both! I think too, when we do for her roommate, we are teaching all the younger generation how we respect everyone. Louise has no family, so we can adopt her into ours. She stopped in front of Dad and said," I like you." :-)
This is so nice, jip the rooms are going to look bright and cheerfull good job!
You are a very thoughtful daughter! Your name banners are great!
I have a friend who makes these and sells them on Etsy. They are simpler, but I got the idea from her. Her shop is called Emily Ann's Corner!
how simply wonderful having been in a similar situation with my sister hmmmmmmmmmmmmm wonderful...soozie
You are a wonderful daughter. Kay
I haven't always been so wonderful.... I'm trying to make up for lost time :-)
These are wonderful! So bright and cheery too. You have real talent!
I don't know about talent - LOL But, how can anyone miss with lots of gingham and beautiful fabrics! I truly just copied someone else's idea. :-) My dad did call me Artful!
These are pleasantly cheerful. Beautiful because they are made from your heart.
I stitched lots of love in them, and I giggled a lot as they were coming together. Fun to make!
Oh, Jan, what a great way to add a special and heartfelt touch to your mom's room and how wonderful to include her roommate.......
I had fun.. and I didn't have to buy anything to make them. I had everything in my stash!
Very nice and thoughtful of you! Good job!
Thank You. I had just as much fun making something for Mom's roommate as I did for her. Very fullfilling!
Wonderful! I'm sure you have brightened up more than one person's day!!
Louise has no family, no wall decorations. She was carrying her pillow around with her :-)
Way to go my brother would love that and Frank lol excellent job hugs
You could definitely make them with masculine fabrics, and you don't have to applique the letters on. You could just glue them on!
