Just adding a extra comment. This is one of those times that the different use of language has caused me confusion. I have been puzzling about eyelets to eventually discover that its what we in the UK call embroidery anglaise. Me being me I still prefer the dress minus the white fabric at the bottom. I would be adding a ribbon about 5 cm above the hem in a pink colour. Whatever is done its a pretty dress and someone is going to look very pretty in it.
Thank you & I do apologize for the confusion I didn't realize that it was a different word. I have already sewn it on (2cd picture is the finished dress). ~hugs~
Oh, please leave it! It's adorable. You nailed it girl.
Definitely put the eyelet in. It makes it pop! Well done.
What a great dress Loralye, well done. I'd do the same as some others have suggested and just add the eyelet edging to the under part of the dress. If you wanted to make a sash for the waist. Just cut a piece about 36 ins long by 2 and a half ins wide, fold both sides into the middle and press again so it is only about 3/4 inch wide. Tuck each end under and then sew along the edges. Buy a D ring and slide the belt through the D ring. If you want to attach it permanently to the dress sew one part of the belt to the side seam. Love Chris
Loralye - you have done a super job. When I made Georgie's dress I did not bother with the facings. I just cut two bodices, made them separately and sewed them together so there were no raw edges on the inside. I love your ribbon on the sleeves. Job well done. Hugs Sarah
Thank you so much Sarah, your dress was the inspiration for this one! I am glad that you like it too. ~hugs & **~
2 bodices would be a better fit too as you wouldn't be able to see through it, not that you could see through this fabric but if I were to buy a lighter one I will remember this tip.
I think it is brain freeze and we all have it. It turned out great! Kay
Wow can u make me one please lol excellent job Lor. hugs
Well done. The top photo looks good but with the added lace it really adds to it makes it something special.
The way I add the eyelet, is, choose one a bit longer than the hem you have pressed up. Now let the hem hang free and sew the eyelet trim to the edge of the hem. as if you were lengthening the dress....lay the trim on top of the bottom edge and sew it down flat (I serge both edges, dress and trim but separately) Now, turn your pressed hem back up and stitch. If your trim is wider than the hem it will peek out the way you have showing in your picture. I hope this is clear.
Your dress is pretty either way!
OH wow this is a great idea I wish that I saw this first before I added the bottom into a slip! I can totally "see" how this would be a great idea. I will try to remember this one thank you!
all done and very good result loralye you trused your instincts and look and look what you created...soozie
You did great job both ways. I love the added lace especially.
Ms Loralye, this dress is very pretty. I like the top photo...but the one with lace eyelet makes the dress POP!!!! You did great with this little dress and it's alright to do it your way. Basically all the patterns are used for are the pieces and the directions are merely a guideline. There really isn't any right or wrong way to build/sew a dress as long as the end result is what you expect. When I was first learning, I went home, finished my dress; took it to class and the teacher made me use a seam ripper and take it apart...because I hadn't done it the way the pattern or she would have done it. I read the patterns for the concept and I do exactly as you have done. Common sense does rule in a lot of things. I only suggested you read it to develop the concept and I thing you grabbed that with both hands and ran. Leaha
Very pretty Loralye, I love it with the white lace too, You did a beautiful job!
Love the addition of the eyelet lace and the under ruffle on the sleeves...makes a huge difference...nicely done....she will look adorable!
Ah thanks Kim I appreciate that very much. You are the dress lady after all. ~hugs~
very pretty ,I would attach the lace to the dress ,little girls don't really have a waist, I would choose a white sash .you have done an excellent job
Beautiful dress for a very Pretty little girl! Hugs, Judy
What a pretty dress you have made love the Broidere Anglaise lace on the bottom.
Nice job, Loralye...I'm with Rescuer...I think more contrast would be good...even a sash around the waist in a solid pink or white would add a bit...if you didn't want to tie with a bow...make the sash and secure it in the back with a couple of buttons or Velcro...
And your way looks lovely so congratulations on making this dress
thank you very much but I think it needs something more. I am thinking through the eyelet suggestion. ~hugs~
It turned out so very pretty!
If you think it needs more for contrast, you could add eyelet to the bottom and/or at the waistline. That way you avoid the bow that your GD doesn't want.
ohhh that is a lovely idea! an eyelet slip I like it! thanks my friend I think I will go see if I have any lol
