What a cute design! I like the curvy part too because it gives some movement to the design. I know what you mean about trimming close. I have the same problem when I do coasters. There always seem to be pokies and if you cut too close, the threads get clipped.
The designs I have that have a satin stitched border first stitch a single line where the satin stitches are going. I use a serrated Kai small scissors to trim close to this line. Then stitch the satin stitches. If there are still pokies, I trim as close as I can, then use a permanent marker to cover them. You are using black and the black markers do a great job of hiding the pokies.
If you trim to the single line first, the pokies can be the stabilizer sticking out. So use a stabilizer that tears cleanly.
I also find that if I use a wss, the pokies are the wss. So I just use a little water and dissolve them away.
I share in your frustration. Seems that the satin stitches on the edges of things you see in the store don't have pokies. I always wonder how they do that.
This is really adorable. Love redwork designs, so quick and easy. For close cutting try using a pair of applique scissors. They have a duck bill that keeps you from cutting to close.
Now this is very Ducky love it ***and Welcome to cute:):)Hugs Carolyn from Canada
