Sinkholes have been in the news a lot lately and seeing the damage caused to homes is just devastating so.......

when we discovered we couldn't open or close the upstairs windows on the left side front of our house we decided it was time to get our 'sinking' problem fixed by professionals.

A month, and $30,000 later, the house has been successfully underpinned, the cracks all closed up and all windows now working properly but part of the service is for damaged bricks to be removed and replaced so. thinking again, we decided to have two windows installed in my downstairs sewing room, which, until now was windowless, wall less and door less, in fact it is just a big empty void with unlined brick external walls and unlined ceiling,
Now some of that is about to change and give hubby a starting point for making my sewing space into a much nicer place.
I will definitely add after photo's but it will take months before Ray completes all the work required.
Photo 1, walking into my sewing space, note the breather holes top and bottom in the brickwork, these go all the way round the outside letting in dust, cold and creepys, ieuwww!
Photo 2 'inside' the space
Photo 3 looking up at 'the ceiling', this is the only lighting in the space except for my desk lamps
Photo 4 facing to the right
Photo 5 & 6 looking back toward the entry into the space, and at the ceiling. there is a very poorly built, unfinished room there that houses a toilet. Note the power board hanging down from the ceiling, the ONLY power point is on the right side wall and I have extension leads strung up along the ceiling.
Photos 7 & 8, coming full circle looking to the left of the entry way, these are the old wardrobes I use as a wall to separate my 'space' from the garage and Ray's work room.
I will add more pics later as the Underpinner team started repairing the brickwork and installing the windows today. YEEHAH!!!

Necessity is the mother of invention and you've utilized her skills wonderfully. Clever way to keep the electrics safe. :)

Today's progress, starting with a special wall of rubber like sheeting inside to keep the brick dust out. Pic 1.
Photo 2 Ray (in the foreground) and the workmen discussing the hole in the wall. :-)
Photo 3, Gary trying to get a straight cut, without much success, bricks get brittle in time making them difficult to remove evenly, they kept falling out in chunks.
Photo 4 one window in place
Photo 5 the bricks all replaced, what a beautiful job.
Window number two goes in tomorrow. YAYE!!!

I'm so glad you saved your home. And now this space will become your haven and sewing room. Can't wait to see the progress. I too, think the hanging electrical board to be a lovely architectural detail. hehe

It's a nice sewing space! Spacious and once windows are in will really be nice. I've seen projects where they place fluorescent lighting on the wall for faux windows. That would be good too. With my increasing age, I have to have good lighting. Thanks for sharing your great space with us.

WOW! Great pictures. It is a blessing you found out what was happening to you home before it actually collapsed. I know it was a great deal of money. But well worth it. Blessings sent to you.

Looking good Meg and thanks for the email with the pictures of the window space being knocked out. It will make it so lovely and light once they are in place. Poor Ray, he certainly has his work cut out for him. Hope Spanky is feeling better too! Love Chris

I'm worried for Spanky, will probably take him back to the vet tomorrow as he is leaking bloody urine, that is NOT good!!!

Great pictures Meganne. I love the power cord hanging from the ceiling. I think Ray has his work cut out for him. Looking forward to the before and after pictures. Is that a thread rack in Picture 6...looking interesting. Did Ray build that for you also? Would love to see a closeup of it.
Hugs Jerri
