Today i been thinking on fooling with thread thickness .I bought this book mark from urban Thread this morning and i wanted to tell you ,you can make this design with these thickness but my machine (husqvarna ) would not even thread reg. crotchet cotton.I have a thin one cotton but where did i put it???lol i will half to try that when i find it .

Anyone else ever tried this???hugs Carolyn

Excellent pieces. I really like the 50wt. cotton thread from Connectingthreads. This is what I started out with and had problems with density. When I use this thread now I usually increase the design size by at least 6%.

I like the difference in texture you get with the different threads. What weight is the gold thread? Thanks for posting your results!

Very interesting. I get enough frustration with just the different embroidery threads, so I'm not likely to try this, but thanks for sharing.

Hi Carolyn nice birdies, just a quick tought, if you can not thread it, why can it be in in the bobbin? Perhaps the thicker thread will work in the bobbin and regular top tread, works for some sewing techniks

I have never used thicker or double threads. I have stitched a few crochet doilies using quilters cotton thread both on top and bobbin, as recommended by the designers, and they stitched out very well. The only thing I don't like about cotton is that it produces a lot of lint, but it's interesting to know what the other embroiders do.

When I had my machine in for them to look at it for what I thought was bad stitching, the girl suggested that I use topstitch needles all the time. I have been doing this all the time now and have not had as much trouble with any of my stitches. I get my needles at Joann's.

I too like to experiment so tried 2 silky bobbin threads together as the top thread, 1 white the other yellow as the body for the current free alphabet from cutees. This has given a texture to the little chook/duck... (Chook is Aussie for chicken)... My sample is on calico using a 90/14 needle so I will have to re sew whenever I decide on the real thing. I would love to show you the sample but I am technologically challenged and do not know how.........sorry................Ann

You can use thread wt 12 without problems if you have the right needle for it. A couple of years ago I bought a box of Madeira's so-called Glamour thread and it contained the right needles for it (a type of topstitch needle with a large eye) as well as a CD with special designs (larger stitch length and lower density than usual). Both the designs and the needles also worked welll with the Burmilana woolen threads.

I have heard if the thread can go through the needle, it is OK to use. but you are much braver than I am. I stick to my embroidery thread.
