I think I've found a solution. I bought 1000 4 inch paper doileys on ebay for 10 dollars and they have cut outs around I can run a thin ribbon through. Then I will put a colored felt backing on them.add those little pin backings and done. Couldn't get much easier and won't they think I'm clever. No embroidery involved.
Very clever! Very creative! Show us your results (at least of the decorated doily before they are distributed!! Fun job. :)
IF you are thinking about embroidery, I've made name badges for myself for various events using a heavy cutaway...then cut it out with pinking shears, put it in one of those plastic name badge pin things then. I think an ultra fine sharpie will write just fine on the cut away. Or you can just put a ribbon on it & safety pin the ribboned badge to your shirt.
I would check out the creative center at Brother-usa. I did not see any templates for family reunions (which they should have). however you may be able to modify another.I believe Xerox also has something.
Do you have a fund for making these, or does it all come out of your pocket? If you have a little bit of spending money, you could get the inexpensive "visitor badges" from an office supply store. They come with the cards to write on, and the plastic cover and pin. If you wanted them a little fancier, you could print off the names with a frame on printer paper and then cut them out and slide them in on top of the card. A printer page would probably hold 8-12, depending on what size you printed. Or they could be embellished with stickers, scrapbook notions, markers/crayons, etc. I've attached a sample of what I had in mind. There are lots of similar things out there Have fun, no matter which method you choose.
You might be able to use a plain vinyl tablecloth for the background and embellish it with small things.
Shape...
You could also make applique badges for everyone out the same stuff as above. Different shape for each family's members, ovals, squares, rectangles, diamonds etc.
Good idea,I need something not too time consuming but I want it to look nice too. I have a bit of time to work on it.
