Well, I did it again: A friend gave me a white enamel double boiler and the bottom had a lot of stains on it, so once again I tried the toothpaste and it all came off. I just rubbed it all over the bottom, let it sit for awhile and then used an old toothbrush...the pot looks like new. I should have taken a before and after picture, but really wasn't sure it would work.
I am liking this toothpaste cleaner...
So glad you got it fixed up, Jerri!! Cuties, toothpaste and baking soda are wonderful stuffs! The baking soda of course has no "soapy" stuff in it, but it works like what we call "cleanser" (Comet, Old Dutch, etc) that you use for your sink, but without the grit. It's so fine and mild that it won't scratch anything up, but it is a very fine abrasive, like ultra ultra fine sandpaper. A lot of us use it to brush our teeth. Toothpaste is the same, very very fine abrasives with flavours & soapy things added. So it would work the same way, with the addition of the soap to remove gummy or greasy things. Just don't use the gel things, regular tooth paste, the white stuff. Actually, that's how it "scours" the plaque and stuff off your teeth, those very mild abrasives. Toothpaste does a dynamite job on jewelry, too. You can get all the gunk out from under your set stones and see the sparkle again, and a toothbrush gets into rings with fine piercings that catch all the crud. The paste cleans, polishes and shines without scratching anything, too! Just not soft stones, like opals, pearls, or turquoise or triplets of any kind that shouldn't be in water in the first place, those it could damage. Just your diamonds, rubies and emeralds, gals, hee hee hee! Very smart work using it on your plastic sewing machine, Jerri, it won't harm plastic at all. Just do be careful of the WATER part around your machines, use the paste out of the tube, and wipe it off dry, or with a very slightly damp rag. Our Cuties have the greatest hints! Hugs, Marji
Thank you so much Marji. I did wipe it off dry. we just never know what things can do unless we try right?
Hugs Jerri
Thanks for the tip. I'm glad you got it off your machine. I have also used white toothpaste to clean silver. But, I didn't realize it had so many uses
Your welcome. Sounds like it has a lot more uses than just keeping our teeth sparkling.
Toothpaste has helped me out several times in the past. So pleased it worked for you.
It is truely amazing how many things toothpaste will clean including our toothy pegs, thanks for the headsup... Marian
Thanks for the tip in case this happens to me and my machine. Juanita
I would have thought of a lot of ideas, but toothpaste would not have been among them. Thanks for the heads-up!
I tried everything I had in my cleaning supplies, and then when I went to brush my teeth, I thought what have I got to loose...
I know people who use toothpaste to fill in holes in their walls. She uses it for everything. This one works for me! Thanks
I was so happy it worked, the machine is only a few months old so didn't want it to look like I had it for years....not so soon anyway..
Where there's a will, there's a way! Toothpaste!
I asked my bowling partner, a Lieutenant Commander in the Australian Navy, how he kept his dress white shoes so clean and surprise, surprise, his answer was Toothpaste.
Guess who now has sparkling white leather shoes? :-)))
You could probably also use a mixture of Bi-Carbonate Soda (Baking Soda) and lemon juice, made into a paste it will even remove rust stains off tiles if left on the stain for a few days. :-)
Hugs n love, Meganne
Thanks for sharing the tip and very glad it works
Did you contact the company and complain about their product?
yes, I too have got a little black stuff on my machine which comes from the black leave-in stabilizer which I use. Haven't bothered to get it off, seems to get rubbed off by other stabilizer in time.
Try the toothpaste, it came off so easily, where other cleaners didn't touch it.
