well Shirley, I would eat the yogurt, drink the whiskey and take panadol. Then get some sticky tape and a wooden skewer!! Do hope you are a bit better by now.xx
Soooo painful. I first did it when I was about 8 using a treadle machine, my mum had to turn the hand wheel to get it out. Permanently etched on my memory.
Have you tried keeping a wooden kebab stick to hand for holding fabric down. Being wooden it causes less damage if the needle strikes it.
Hope it heals quickly and does not throb too much.
Mary
Ouch! Fortunately I have never sewn my finger. I hope you saved the project and didn't bleed all over it. That would have added insult to injury.
Helen.
I was lucky and got no blood on the project I was working on. Take my advice and just keep your fingers away from the needle area and you won't sew your finger. Shirley
Ouch!!! I can empathize with you. I did that a few years ago trying finish a dress for my daughter. "In a hurry, don't be sorry." my grandma used to say.
A prayer for quick healing.
God bless
Doreen
Ouch, but just to make you feel a little better, I once read on a list/forum of someone who was leaning over her machine, cleaning out a bobbin nest and accidentally pressed the button while her breast was under the needle....do you feel better now?
Oh Dear!... Yes I do feel a little better now. That sure would have been unpleasant.
Ouch, I'm sorry you hurt your finger, hope it gets better soon. :)
My sister did that and expect a while to heal as the needle is so thick. We are all guilty of trying to speed up the process by getting our fingers in the way to do clips. Maybe the rest of us can learn from your unfortunate experience but probably not!!! We all seem to need to learn lessons the hard way!
Sorry to hear it happened to your sister. It is a pity our fingers get in the way. It sure is a sore way to learn a lesson.
Injured on duty Shirley - had you been in employment you might have claimed workmen's compensation. I always fear a broken needle with resultant pieces going in to my eye. Trust your finger will soon be better.
Patricia
Yes on duty in my own home. lol Don't think hubby will give me workmens's compensation somehow. We should wear safety glasses when sewing just in case a broken needle goes flying.
OH Shirley ouch! I hope that it heals quickly! Stick it into a bowl of yogurt it helps speed the healing & makes it feel so much better. ~hugs~
Sounds like a quick cure. Will have to go out and buy some as I don't eat the stuff lol Hugs
I feel your pain...I had this happen just once...and not too long ago! Take care if your "boo boo"...
Yes doc I will take care and keep my fingers out of the way in future. But sometimes when doing ITHoop projects you need to hold the fabric down in places. Well that is my excuse anyway.
Sorry about your finger. Try keeping painter's tape at your machine. It holds down fabric and if you sew through it, no big deal.
hmm sound familiar !
Ouch! At least the needle didn't break like your picture shows. I remember seeing this and commenting at the time. It sure makes me feel a little better knowing others have done the same thing and not only once but twice.
I did that once and I will never forget it. Awful. Take care of your finger.
Sorry to hear you have done the same thing as well. It is not something one wants to do very often as you would know,
Just thinking about this gives me the willies. I hope it heals really fast. I can almost feel the hurt.
I too hope it heals really fast. it is not easy doing things with one finger stuck up in the air covered in band aids.
Yikes - you have my complete sympathy - I am happy your DH wasn't able to take a pic - just the thought makes me wince - and, you have enough hurt to not need a pic of it. Please watch it closely - go to the doctor at any sign of infection. No reason to suffer any more than necessary!! So sorry!! Hugs to you! Laura*
Thanks for your sympathy Laura. No I don't think all you cuties would have liked to see the blood and the thread hanging from both sides of the finger nail. Was not a pretty site. I will keep a eye out for any infection.
Oooooo i know what that feels like i did the same some years ago twice in a couple of months i hope i never do it again you need some tlc...by the way your steamed loaves are a real hit in my house with d/h and g/d's it is a weekly event now 6 loaves in the pot steaming....hope your finger is back in action soon....soozie
Thanks Soozie. Sorry to hear you did the same to your finger twice in a couple of months. At least mine were about 25 years apart. Glad to hear the steamed loaves are a hit. We finished the last one from the freezer Sunday when our daughter and SIL came to visit. Must make some more.
Dear Shirley, do take good care of that wound. Perhaps some ice to the finger will help relieve the throbbing. That is so much pain! Hugs!
I have bathed it and will do so again in the morning. Thanks for your concern. I should not have had my finger where it was.
OH Shirley I am wincing in agonising sympathy with you.
I do hope it will heal quickly without any long term bad affects.
It is the one thing I have always been afraid of doing but, (touch wood), I have a 60 year, needle through the finger, free record. :-)
You have done well. 60 years. When I had the 1st needle accident, I was working in a sewing store and the boss wanted me to do it again for a TV ad. to promote Janome not even going into overload. I declined the offer.
OMG! What a terrible boss! Surely he/she was joking?
Just thinking of doing it at all gives me the cold shivers, I really feel for you Shirley.
OMG - this has made my tummy do an about turn. I hope the finger gets better soon. I should have a whisky if I were you :)
Sorry to make your tummy do a turn about. I don't drink whisky. Will have to find some lemonade.
OUCH! I know we all have bad habits. I am so sorry it happened to you again. But now you have another 25 years to forget. Please take good care of that poor hurting finger. No infection please. and when you feel up to it, have a wonderful treat to make yourself fell better. Food and fabric sounds delightful to me.
Don't think I will be around for another 25 years for it to happen again. That would put me in to the mid 90's. But then maybe I will be still sewing at 95. :)
I have a friend that's 101 & she's still sewing! She's in as good shape as I am at 71!! She IS using a walker now!
Oh, my goodness. I'm so sorry! That made my stomach do a double flip. I am notorious for putting my hands around where the needle is working and it seems like just a matter of time if I don't stop that. Keep it elevated above your heart to help with the throbbing. Hugs!
My stomach did more than a flip. Thanks for the advice to help with the throbbing. After soaking and putting band aids on it I continued to sew. It was not until later in the day I said to hubby "It is a wonder it did not bend the needle" Did not think to check before sewing again.
I like spend;s cure! Ouch! I have come close, and has been bitten by other metal pieces, and can only imaging your plight!
It was not a nice feeling. I have a 30mm scratch down the nail. I won't repeat the words I used when it happened. LOL Shirley
Ouch! I feel quite sick at the thought. Eat something nice to take your mind of it.
I will need more than comfort food Sue. It is throbbing quite a bit. Serves me right though I am old enough to know better LOL. Shirley
So sorry Shirley,
What about a nice Scotch or Brandy to dull the ache - on the other hand you could just take a Panadol he he he! I see it's pretty chilly down Tassie. Love Chris
Sure is cold down here Chris. So cold I should not be feeling the throbbing he he he
