I have just spent the last couple of hours trying to tidy my design room & I have come to the realization that I have a plethora of scraps my question to you is what do you do with all of your scraps? I have so many I am not sure what to do with them all?

There is a lovely website which has one downloadable pdf file for most of the sizes and shapes for English paper piecing - it is about 10 American dollars, or rather, it was when I bought it.

Oh dear, that reminds me of a shoe box full of hexagons and finished roses.... I've got a set of metal templates, bought long ago, in 1973 or '74, at the Needle Woman's shop in Oxfordstreet, London. And started cutting paper and fabric. made one cushion and a baby quilt and a box full for the start of another. Then we moved back to the Netherlands and that box is still there....

conntact your local collage as they will most likelynhave a class that is dealing with textiles and the students would love them. Plus check online for any local quilting groups,. you can then donate to them to make something for a charity fund raiser.

I teach quilting both in classes and individually. Quilting is easy; much easier than sewing garments, etc. Just find a pattern that you like, and you will find yourself planning the next one halfway through the one you are working on.
IF you get really frustrated and just want your scraps out of your way, then take them to any donations center or most any senior center. You will make someone's day very happy.
If you feel up to making a quilt, check out Marcia Hohn's site. She has a very abundant library. You can use your own colors; she just provides the ideas. I hope you enjoy the process!!

I got a pop up hamper from the dollar store and throw all my scraps in there. When I paper piece or machine applique, I can look in my scrap bin and fine the color I want. I also use them for quilts.

Upcycle an item of clothing by using them to make it new to you.
Use them for the other side of a baby blanket, donate it to your hospital for the premies. One side soft flannel and a pretty pieced side for the other side.

I save all mine to make string quilts . Making lap robes for women's Club to distribute to Nursing homes. I can make 12 in. string blocks border them then join 6 of them and put backing and you have a nice looking lab quilt. Lillian

Take the larger scraps and sew them together to make a cushion. Cut the small scrapes up and put in the cushion.Sew together and give to animal shelter. That is what i do it is my way of giving something to all those helpless annimals

I started English paper piecing with my scraps. Check out this book
(Pieced Hexies A new Tradition in English Paper Piecing) by Mickey Depre. I went to the Library and found this book. This book puts scraps together to make hexies. I like to paper piece in the winter when it is to cold in my basement to sew.

Go to this website. This lady is my favorite. Bonnie Hunter will show you all the wonderful quilts she made with scraps. Little scraps like 2 1/2" squares.
She came here for a retreat in lower Alabama and everyone was in love with her techniques. Be sure to look at "Addicted to scraps" and "Free Patterns. She is Amazing.

You can always send them off to eggyannie. She made a lovely cushion using small pieces. How about a scrap quilt. I have seen some of these and they can be very beautiful. Hope these ideas help. Hugs Shirley

Appliques! I BOUGHT a huge bag full of quilt squares today at the thrift store "for a song". So, I'm not much help!

Anita Goodesign has ITH quilts using crazy quilt squares. Very nice and quick!

Very proud of you for trying to neaten your sewing room. We all have to do this once in a while. It's like a garage - stuff just multiplies when we turn our back!

lol that is so funny but I remember learning about the Sprites who would come into the night & tidy your room when you were fast asleep so it would be lovely if they could come & do it for me lol.(didn't know it was my mom)

There are a lot of ith-designs for scrappy hearts, christmasornaments you can use they for, you can make cushioncovers, tablemats or other small things with the method to sew tiny squares together with vlies (dont know the english word), I have shown some weeks ago and you can use for applique.

If you are timid about a quilt, make a quilted pillow. It's much smaller and not so intimidating....no telling where you might end up. Eggyannie made a beautiful quilted pillow with 1" squares forming a heart in the center. Go take a look.

How about a patchwork quilt? Or donating them to a charitable organization? Third option: pack them away in a box!. Good luck, many of us find ourselves in the same position. Patricia
