Nice picking. I have been canning purple hull peas. I put up 16 quarts this week, and have about 8 more cooling, to put in freezer bags.
Wow , did you ever !!! The dog had to wait while you picked berries. You are one fast woman!! You must have the jars on hand. Kay
YUM! we have been making jam for years & now our girls our making them too! So happy to have passed this down to them to make for their families & mom & dad too! ~hugs~
Lord I make this all the time! So much fun! And great Christmas gifts! I also do peachberry jam which is strawberry and peaches and the peaches are the canned ones you buy in the grocery store. And I make grape jelly out of Welch's 100% grape juice. You can go by a Sav-A-Lot store and buy what you call Jel-ese for $.99 and it is the same as the Sure jell you do for jelly only a lot cheaper. I have used it and have no problem. I have never had any of my jelly or jam spoil and I have some that are 2 years old. I love taking out an afternoon and making a bunch of jelly. You can also use Motts 100% apple juice to make apple jelly and should you want to put some apple pieces in there you can. I never buy jelly or jam in the grocery store. Why should I when I can make my own a lot cheaper? Makes sense to me. So you ladies that make jelly and jam more power to you for you are saving a ton of money. Have you priced jelly in the grocery store lately? Roberta
Oh yum, oh yum, oh yum. Love in a jar. I remember when my kids were little, 3 & 5 and my husband backed the truck up to the blackberry bushes and we got in the back and picked berries for hours. My son, the 3 year old, put all his either in his mouth or his pocket. Those little sage denim pants were never the same. Great memory.
I used to make my dog stand next to me when I picked blackberries because I am afraid of snakes. My dad loved blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream on top.
We love to pick huckleberries...unfortunately they are also loved by the bears...never go without a lookout!
You have been busy. There is nothing better than home made jams. Shirley
Nice haul! Now you would have my hubby's attention. Food. lol! Mine too actually.
Blackberry Jam MMMM! MMMMM! good stuff, my favorite. I remember picking bucket after bucket as a child and my brother 3 yrs. younger would eat as many as he picked. Gran would make us a cobbler and always jam. Great job/Lillian
Good day's work!! So nice to have one's own preserves. I am hoping to do some raspberry jam or jelly next week. :-)
Hugs, Nadyne
Yum and I am waiting on blackberries in one patch to get ripe. Lol they may not be enough for jam once I get to picking. We done had strawberries, mulberries, raspberries. So next is blackberries and elderberries.
Wow, I envy you preserve makers and canners......I am scared to death of poisoning myself or Jim.......I bet this is delicious!!!!
I make freezer jams out of all types of fruits and haven't killed either of us yet! If I can do this so can you, Ms Vicki. They are really good also.
Oh Yum - I made loads of marmalade last weekend. It is such a satisfying job.
must have been a looonnnng walk, if you need some labels for your glasses have a look at the link that follows
happy times to have some blackberry jam on pancakes in winter
Very pleased to have this - I am great on making MARMELADE - of different varieties. THANKS INDEED!
Thanks for the labels. I can use this for my jars. Do you ask for sticker paper, to print them on at the office store?
just print them on plain paper and stick them to the jar with milk, yes milk works fine and the lables will not come of, old brewers trick as I have learned and .remember to but the sticker saved money in design piggy bank 8-)
Yummy, I'll bring the homemade and we can have toast and jelly!!!!! :-}
oooooo Blackberry jam, YUM!
try the mixture of 1/2 blackberry and 1/2 strawberry and 1 1/2 small spoon cocoa - very tasty
Hi Columbus. You say 'a small spoon'. What does a 'small spoon' hold? Is it a level teaspoon? A heaped one? Or other? Thank you. Patricia
a teaspoon well filled (I hope this is the right expression) can not write more - i am watching the last minutes of the world championship -
Cocoa!? I've never heard of that, I will note that in my recipe stash! Thanks.
