I hate them as i get/got to much junk mail .I tried only once but never again hugs
I belong to a couple, one for quilting and one for embroidery. I don't get ANY e-mails from either group, because I have my settings set to "no mail". You have a choice, you don't have to get every post to the group in your inbox. But that is the default setting, you have to go into your settings and change it yourself, then you won't get all the mail, and you can check in on the group and read what and when you want. But read the rules of the group before you join. One woman has a "group", but she is the only one who can post, and she uses it to send out announcements about new designs, etc. You only get about one mail from her per week, but you HAVE to be on individual mails to stay in the group, and she is one of those that if you leave, you're not coming back. My quilting group is pretty quiet, especially in the summer, but I check in and read mails there like I do here. I don't get anything from them in my inbox, because that's a choice I made in my settings. Yahoo is probably as safe or unsafe as anything else on the web. At least they don't read your individual emails like Google does in gmail. I just find Yahoo mail a pain, because the awful amount of truly stupid spam. Worse than all the junk mail in the real mailbox, and they don't even know I'm a woman, because I get ads for Viagra and am contacted by "hot Russian women" who want to, uh, well, you get the picture. I wish they'd figure out I'm not a GUY, that would help a lot. I never had any trouble with my two little groups, and if you just want to see projects posted there, I'm not sure what the problem would be. Best of luck in whatever you decide. Hugs, Marji
The more groups you join the more emails you will get. The announcement groups for 1 site will give you just that site. Many years ago - OK just about 10 years ago, yahoo groups was mainly used like a webring or mall. I like to read quickly who is up to what and if I am interested I can take the next step. I do see redundant messages as there is overlap.
You can choose how many emails you get: Individual (you get all emails) Daily Digest (you get 1 per day). Some groups tell you have to be on Individual but there are not many of those.
It is safe. Even safer if you don't send messages within the group. Several years ago I sent a message about a design or something not too important. Then a few months later I Googled myself and that message and my email address came up in the search. I don't send many messages.
I belong to several yahoo groups, have never had any problem with them. I only receive mail at their site which are numerous if you do not delete them regularly. They also provide updates of new designs and have group specials. There is always someone to respond to questions, which can be helpful if you do not belong to other forums. As always, use a fun user name and do not post your personal information when you ask questions.
Thanks. I am still thinking about this. I just hate sitting for a lot of time deleting e mails....
I belong to a number of yahoo groups and yes, they are safe. You can choose to get individual emails from the group or be on what is called a daily digest where you get a number of emails all in one. Give it a try on your favorite site's group. Hugs. Nan W
Some, if you opt out, won't let you back EVER. Some will let you go on vacation or be out awhile if you are very sick or something like out of the country. Depends on the owner.
I joined One Yahoo group. I was very picky with joining and wanted to get only from reputable sites. I have purchased from the site and they do have good quality. That said, I do get daily email from the group. I changed settings to only get that many -- otherwise I would have 10 or more emails every day from the one group. It is not allowed to block emails or unsubscribe from the emails...group rules.
I have not yet been punished by getting Spam outside the group emails.
I do get specials for group members only. The discounts are nice. Would I do it again??? I am not sure.
It is safe I am sure, but I don't belong to any. I have more than enough designs as it is. I am sure there will be someone along soon who does belong to a Yahoo group who can tell you the positives.
