Okay Thank you three. Contacting Pinterest is an interesting idea. I will try! I even didn't think about all that legal stuff, but you're right!
I don't think the letters were an embroidery file. I looked closely at it and it appears to me that it was simply cut out of a heavy fabric then edge stitched down. If you look at the edges you can see some fraying. You could just print out screen picture of the words and use it as a pattern. Since you are not selling it, I wouldn't think that would be breaking any laws.
I think she is looking for an embroidery design of it. I have not found any on legal embroidery sites and with them fighting right now over copyright concerning their Pin...digitizers might shy away from trying to do it.
I am sure if they could ask permission from Pinterest to digitize it.

Okay thank you.,
yes I had seen that it is made there with some kind of applique, but as far as I don't have that much experience with applique I would prefer an embroidery file ;)
You may find it difficult as the "Pin it" is actually artwork designed for Pinterest (done in 2011) by Michael Deal and Juan Carlos Pagan (as well as the Pinterest team). If it were a font, you might find it easier.
I do know Pinterest is in a legal battle over the rights to use Pin...
I have not seen any **legal** sites with the Pinterest logo design. The only "Pin it" I saw was the one with Riley Blake.
You might want to contact Pinterest to see if they have a design for sale.
Can't you just write the words from your own embroidery machine (the built in letters) something close so there is no copy write laws to deal with.
The copyright would exist with the look of the design.
Think of it this way. If I make a new car and I call it Ford but I use a different font -- the real Ford can sue to get me to stop and pay them for any damage they feel I have caused them.
It is best to just ask Pinterest. They may not have one but they may love the idea of one being made and give permission.
