I am sewing a pair of long shorts out of a ribbing type fabric with stretch in them...........@the last minute I think maybe a lace edging would look nice & make them a bit more feminine my question is this.........since they are stretchy but not too stretchy how do I attach the lace to the edges to make them stretch too? DO I have to have stretchy lace & is there such a thing or do I use elastic thread in the bobbin? Or am I way off kilter here?

Martine I hope you can see the lace sample here I was wondering if this was how it should be kind of gathered like? i changed to this photo

There are tons of stretch laces out there, which will be far less scratchy than your standard lace. Just be sure to use one of your stretch stitches, and you should have absolutely wonderful results! Good luck and enjoy!

I will sew it on the reversed way so the short end of the lace will cover the fabric & not lay on my leg so the pretty bottom part of the lace will show better once I put it on the shorts. I hope that this is the right way & someone sees it & tells me it is so I don't mess them up

There is stretchy lace, mostly for lingerie.
If you are using normal lace, you stretch the fabric slightly while stitching on the lace with a stretchy stitch (like a narrow zigzag), that gives a ruffled effect. Try it out on a small remnant.
