One set of squares used.

I had these tests stitched on different sized squares - and loads of others as well. Some squares were 4 1/4 "others 9" and some on different coloured backgrounds of varying sizes. So I had to add borders to get them all the same size. One was too near the bottom of the fabric and that's why I added a space ship. It's far from perfect, but not too bad either.
You'll find the baby girl monsters (except the applique one) on Yoriko's site, the space ship on YouEmbroidery.

Now to the next set...

Thank you. Those eyes are the constant factor in the quilt - it's hanging in my sewing room and the eyes are the first thing you notice.

Wonderful use of your test outs! Love the colors and the way you managed to use the different sized blocks! I've got quite a stack of them that I've been meaning to make into a quilt... but requests from the grands keep coming first.... *

Yes, there's always something that interferes with plans. I wanted to start a new one but need a replacement blade first. So I ironed my scraps ready to go.
And grands always come first!

A great quilt, babies love bright things so this will surely be a favourite blanky..

Thank you. I am glad pink, blue and yellow are no longer the only colours for baby items, I too love the brighter ones.

How gorgeous Martine, love all the different Monster faces and the colours. Some little child will absolutely love this. Good on you for donating it to a Charity. What a wonderful way of using up your test designs. Love and blessings Chris

P.S. there is never a wrong way when quilting something and if you do make an error - just add something else to it! I do! he he he!

Thank you, Chris. I tested some twice, after a little adjustment of the first one and used a different colour in the second. Sometimes I remember to mirror as well. And sometimes I test two too close together to use them separately. It makes a gay-coloured quilt.

I have the stick fairies to do next, with coloured strips in between. Sew a few extras (mirrored!) to make up 12 or maybe even16 squares. Question is which colour to choose. It should not be super sweet, maybe the light grey would work. Decisions, decisions.

This is such a fun quilt. In the future I will always test stitch which I haven't been doing so far.

Thank you. I have to test my designs, Yoriko needs a picture of a sewn-out example. And occasionally I have to adjust something, like a forgotten or double underlay in some part of the design.

Thank you. In the past I tested on anything I had within reach. Now I tend to test on the same size squares, which makes it easier to use them; but sometimes I just have not got a wide enough strip left over, hence the 4 1/2" squares.

Thank you. Usually it takes me a day or two before I like it. At first I only see mistakes, imperfections or things I want to do differently. In this case i had made a lay-out of the blocks and when stitching the second row i mixed up the first two and last two blocks. Of course there's no right or wrong, but I know it is not what I intended. But I must say I can't help smiling when I see the quilt :)

Thank you. I'll donate it to a charity - after I've looked at it for a time. It's encouraging and inspiring to have something on the wall in my sewing room.

Fantastic eye candle, lost of interesting new things for a little one. Great idea for the stitch outs. I think for a child's room you could also use the test stitches on a longer valance or the bottom of a curtain. The little rocket block looks like you planned that all along. So Cute. :-)

mops by mops 20 Aug 2014

Thank you. I like your idea to use them on a curtain or valance, but I don't know of any babies in my circle of friends and acquaintances. So I'll play safe and start another quilt.

Thank you. It built my confidence and I'll try do at least one every fortnight to use all those sets - might have to add a few designs, mirrored, different colours, to get a nicer number than the usual 10 in a set.
