You've been a busy little beaver. Blackberry jam is delicious yum1 yum! on fresh baked biscuits. Have never tried chutney,
For those of you who would like to see the jam pot covers, waxed discs, xx
For those of you wanting this recipe - here is the webpage that Jean has mentioned. Love Chris
Looks yummy...so when you seal with cello....do you need a wax layer too? I have never seen jams sealed with cello before...
This is how it's been done in my family for years. I remember my Nanna doing it back in Adelaide back in the 1950's! Love Chris
Waxed paper discs, I will take a photo tomorrow to show you all. Stays good for a year, xx
Oh thanks...I have not seen waxed paper discs before...I have only seen paraffin was melted and poured over the top of the jam to seal it...
All the new recipes you have to process jams in a water bath. How do you put these in a water bath to can them? Do you not have to put wax on them? Do they have to be eaten within a month or so? Sorry for all the questions but just wondering. Have a great day
Hi, I put fruit & sugar in a large saucepan, rapid boil for approx 6 minutes pour in sterilised jars place a wax disc on jam then cello to airtight, jam can last for at least a year, but not in our house, lol, xx
That is the way I use to do it. Now the Certo labels tells you to put it in a water bath. Jam here also doesn't last long. I also give it as gift to family & Friends. Thank you for the information. Have a good day. Happy Canning
wow they both look yummy! I have not heard of celowrap jars so I have also learned something new! & I love the odd sizes & shapes of the jars! they are so pretty! I am adding the label link that another cutie shared with us a while back just in case you need it. ~hugs~
For those of you who would like this recipe here's where to get it, allrecipes.co.uk Look under marrow recipes then look for (My Nan's marrow chutney) Try it yummy, xx
Looks yummy. I've never tried marrow chutney but have pickled zucchine/courgettes that had grown to real marrow size, just like you would pickle cucumber.
Looks absolutely delicious! I want some! and I do not even know what marrow chutney is! Is it sweet?
Hello Jean, did you use Zucchinis for this Chutney or something else. I've looked up Marrow and there are many different types.
I LOVE BLACKBERRY JAM - it would have to be my all time favourite. When my sister and I were young we used to go into the Adelaide Hills to pick Blackberries with Mum and Dad on the weekend. Love Chris
Hi Chris, Zucchini is that courgette? Marrow is like a lager version of the courgettes, xx
looks better than my effort......I made Zucchini chutney earlier this year and threw the lot away, it tasted ghastly. I wonder if you will share your Marrow chutney recipe with me? cheers Vicki from South Australia.
I've seen a few different recipes, with ginger, garlic etc, but this recipe is just so nice, Look above for the address, xx
May we all come and raid your pantry, I've got dibs on the Blackberry Jam.... :-P Very pretty.
Question No lids????love making things like this keep up the good work:):)hugs
Carolyn, the cellephane jam covers seal the jars. You just dampen them with a little vinegar, then put them on the jars while a little bit warm. They do a bit of 'pinging' while the air sucks out, then they tightly seal the air out.
It's often done this way in Europe, that's why you see so many cloth jam jar covers to protect the cellophane from being punctured. I use it for jars with older lids that have had their best time, or under plastic ones - then add that lid for protectio
wow that is just amazing! I have also never seen them done with celowrap? Is it a special kind?
Thank you Vickiannette, a good way to explain, yes pinging I love that word, xx
There are a few of us who want to join your select circle of Christmas baskets receivers!
Well done Jean. The blackberries are growing well this year and I am looking forwards to making jam from some soon. Marrow chutney sounds yummy too
Hi, yes try marrow,it's a first for me, next I'm going to try rhubarb & raspberry jam, xx
I know I'm going to fine you now...I love rhubarb and raspberries separately so why not together!!!! :0 Yummy
Certainly looks good. I've never heard of Marrow Chutney. Perhaps you will enlighten us about what's in it and how it is served?
