The Turtle design is From the Needle of Anne...the Angel is from Grand Slam and added the wording in my software. I use an iron-on knit tricot to cover the embroidery on the inside...makes it smooth as a baby's butt!

They are gorgeous! I would like to make some but I fear that the embroidery will be 'itchy'... What do you use on the back to keep it soft?

I know what you mean...I always use the tricot soft iron on over the embroidery on the inside...makes it smooth as a "baby's butt"...

Of course - great idea. I hadn't thought of that. Thank you :)

She's going to be stylin'. My gracious, are you going to paint her walls, too? You are so industrious.

OH! I need to do some onesies and I'm always worried about putting holes in the fabric. What are your secrets to success? These look fabulous!!

Thanks Cathy...I use an iron on stabilizer and I also hoop the onsie with the stabilizer...If I don't use the iron on type of stabilizer, I can have issues too...

bowlds by bowlds 25 Aug 2014

I'm always so afraid I'll get holes, especially if the design is too heavy. I don't normally hoop the onesie, just the stabilizer and then do a basting stitch around the design. You don't recommend that? Maybe I better try the iron on.
Thanks!

bowlds by bowlds 25 Aug 2014

What kind of needle do you use?

dragonflyer by dragonflyer edited 26 Aug 2014

I use a ball point needle...and it makes a difference! I didn't think it made a difference until one day my thread just kept breaking and sewing wacky stitches...the minute I changed to a ball point needle..smooth as a baby's butt went the sewing...I have not tried a basting stitch...I try to use a 4x4 hoop and am usually using all the space for the design...I think it would be hard to hold the onsie in place for the basting stitch to go around...but perhaps I need to give it a try...every time I don't use the iron on stabilizer...the fabric gets sucked down into the bobbin case..and I get a thread nest...

I have read both ways, sharp vs ball point. I will try ball point tomorrow, I have 2 onesies to embroider! Thanks.
